A Poem for My Mother - Denise

Because of you my days are not numbered,

And my heart has grown fond of love

Opposed to the tomb.

You've led me on the right path, you've taught

Me the subtle ways of kindness, empathy, & respect,

And my heart is a pond, a lake of love

Where a holy battle is fought.

Without you I'd still be a horror-toon, afraid to live,

Because of you my nights are bright as day, aware

Of the translucent moon, whether crescent or full,

Its light tells tales of what produces shade,

And my heart has been mended by love,

The kind only my mother gives and gave.

You've pulled me out of a lightless fate; the forest within

Me of troubled days are merely roots and past ways, due to you,

The sun, stars, Pleiades, and future-soon,

Is where memory sings songs of each creation made.

And my heart is an ocean seeking love

Where love is wrought & held strong within

As quiet, meek, and humble love, where beauty's a maternal way.
