A Poem for Saint Patrick's Day

Tony Payne
Saint Patrick would have never believed
How his memory would become perceived
In the Emerald Isle they do it in style
With green outfits, green hats and green sleeves

In the New World they went one step beyond
As they do there across the pond
With jugs of green beer
And all sorts of cheer
And silly hats often are donned

Corned Beef and Cabbage are common
In Chicago, New York and Boston
But in Olde Dublin Towne
They'd certainly frown
Guinness is their usual custom

When 17th March comes along
It's an excuse for drinking and song
People form into crowds
And get really loud
As they do when they form into a throng

The next day starts with a warning
Heads are thumping as a new day is dawning
We drank way too much
Spoke fluent double dutch
There's a price to be paid in the morning

Have fun in Belize Tricia, wish I was there. I only got to Belize City, not the reef or the interior (trip was for work). Thanks Bonnie, it's nice to know that people enjoy my poetry.

I will be in Belize on St. Patrick's Day, so my guess is I won't be doing much holiday celebrating. But that's perfectly fine by me!!

In Northern Indiana where they have a large Polish community, everyone becomes honorary Polish on the Monday after Easter when they celebrate Dingus Day. Any excuse to drink and eat Kielbasa :)

I always thought it weird that everyone in America suddenly became 'Irish' LOL.
