A Poem: Time, Where Did it Go?

Time Flies Sometimes and at Others it Stands Still, Depending on Your Age

robritt

Once we spent our time outside
Playing on the slides and swing sets
Playing with dolls and soldiers we loved
Playing, running around the yard as children
And time seemed to just evaporate away

Then our year as teens came
It seemed OUR time, one of excitement
Time slowed a bit still went whizzing by
For there was much to learn, see, and do
Before we reached the magic twenty-one

Twenty-one soon came and went
And with it came a time find a job, to work
A time for new friends and sometimes lovers
There were Babies to hold close tour breasts
Now time seemed to be shortening as years went by

Then was not enough time to do all
The things we wanted to see, learn, try, and do
Where was that extra time we always used to have
It seemed that time itself had stole away our spare time
Or was it possible it was we who were slowing down, not time.

Then age snuck up on our weary bones
The children that we loved and raised were gone
They seemed to have less and less time to visit us
And soon we began to have more time to spend, alone
Or with other seniors whose children had abandon them.

The time we had in our youth, had flitted by
Like a butterfly, gone in less than a wink of an eye
And we got gray and old left by ourselves to find a time
To remember, for we knew that our time was almost gone
Although we know time does not stand still, I wish it could have.

I know what you mean. I am 52 and some days it seems like life is passing me by. Movies like Bucket List start hitting too close to home to even go see at the theater. LOL
