A NEW POINT of VIEW at Ntv7

Are Malaysians ready to hear both sides of the story?

NTV7's latest current affairs offering, Point of View clearly takes the view that Malaysians are interested in getting a 360 degree perspective on the issues that matter. Hosted and produced by Florence Looi, the one-hour talkshow will go on air 9th January 2009, every Friday from 8.30 p.m. with repeats on Mondays from midnight to 1.00 a.m.

The show features two guests (and sometimes up to three guests) with diametrically opposed perspectives on a given issue. Each guest is provided with the opportunity to argue their point of view with Looi playing the part of Devil's Advocate.

Focusing on a range of 'bread and butter matters', as well as a mixture of intellectually stimulating topics and some light-hearted ones, the 60 minute program promises television that entertains, yet informs.

"Point of View (POV) was created as a platform for Malaysians to voice out their concerns, providing viewers information on different sides to an issue," says ntv7's General Manager, Airin Zainul. "As a station that aims to provide not only entertainment but also cerebral content, an offering like POV re-enforces ntv7's stance as a reliable and direct source of information."

Point of View represents a departure from the typical light-hearted English language programming that has come to dominate NTV7, 'the feel good channel'. In line with the increasing public interest and awareness in current affairs, the station felt it was the right time for a current affairs talk show. The producers have strived to find a balance between the typical 'no holds barred' style that has come to mark programs such as 'Hardtalk' (BBC) and the low-key style that many Malaysian viewers associate with local current affairs programming. As such, Point of View comes across as challenging, but not abrasive.

Point of View also introduces Florence Looi's debut as a talkshow host. A former legal eagle with one of Malaysia's biggest law firm, Florence traded in writing legal opinions, for a chance to shape opinions instead. Her media career began at AMP Radio Networks, where she wrote, produced and presented the news for Light FM. From there, she moved to NTV7, where she worked the news desk, covering such major events the March 2008 General Election and the Permatang Pauh by-election. She also hosted several episodes of TV3's top rated business program 'The Exchange'.

Among the topics kicking off POV:

Ep 1 - Should Maths & Science in primary schools be taught in English

Ep 2 - Vernacular schools vs single education system

Ep 3 - Should the ISA be abolished

For discerning discussions on topics close to Malaysians' hearts, don't miss Point of View on ntv7 every Friday, 8.30 p.m. starting 9th January 2009. Repeats will be aired on Mondays beginning 12th January 2009 from midnight to 1.00 a.m. For more information, log on to www.ntv7.com.my

i strongly believe that science and mathematics must be thought in English.this is because as we all aware , english is rising to being used as the main language in the world of technology and science.it's not wrog to learn those two subjects in Bahasa Malaysia. But if we use english to teach, won it be easier when it comes to the sharing of knowledge across nations and barriers and with all the people around the globe.
