A Positive Review of Fisher Price's Kick N Play Piano

Some Parents Hate This Toy, but it is Good for Older Babies, and Toddlers as Well

I have the older model of Fisher Price's Kick n Play Piano. You can still find this model, which has NOT been recalled as of this writing (and I don't see why it would be), on eBay and sometimes on Amazon. It's well worth the combined cost of price and shipping. We got a lot of use out of ours, and at age two and a half, my son still enjoys playing with his. It has different settings, so it is more like three toys in one. The ties are short enough that they are not a strangulation hazard and your child can do as my son has done and play with it outside of the crib using his hands instead of his feet, which is how Fisher Price designed this toy. Other reviewers on other sites have mentioned that it isn't as fun as they expected because when their infant was kicking the toy, the baby couldn't see the lights lighting up on the toy. This is true, but turning the child around for supervised tummy time worked wonderfully for me. Many babies hate tummy time, which is very important to avoid flathead, but making it fun goes a long way towards reducing complaints. Babies usually learn to sit up around six months or so and this toy becomes even more interesting around that age. Before that, you can use a boppy to prop your child up securely, just don't leave him or her unattended as they can still roll sometimes. The lights, as well as the musical qualities of this toy, make it one that ends up being a favorite. The keys on the piano help with small motor and large motor control. Another plus is that the cover, while cloth with the hard plastic piano being inside, comes off the piano and is completely machine washable. I've washed ours, thinking it was hopelessly stained from chocolate milk, but when I pulled it out of the wash, I was pleasantly surprised to find it looked brand new again.

The only problem I have encountered with this toy is that it is difficult to squeeze the piano out of the cloth cover for washing, and then to squeeze it back inside again.

I would recommend this to any parent who is looking for a toy that doesn't entertain your child, but is used by your child to entertain himself (or herself) and who wants something that will not only last a long time, but be interesting enough that it doesn't become boring to your child. This is well worth the cost for the enjoyment that you and your child will gain from having this toy.

  • Another classic toy worth searching for on eBaby.
  • As children grow, they gain the manual dexterity to change the type of music setting on this toy.
  • If used on the floor instead of in the crib, this toy can help make tummy time more fun.
Children who are around music have been said to be more intelligent. I've also seen that they are also calmer, and this allows them a sense of control that they don't always get from other toys. It also teaches cause and effect.
