Zack Schilawski, an alumni of Cary High School and former soccer player for the school and CASL, debuted his career on Saturday March 20, as a professional soccer player for the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer. Many Cary High students, faculty, and alumni came to watch Zack Schilawski join the ranks of the pros.

In a rough game filled with fouls committed by both teams, the New England Revolution came out victorious against the Railhawks with a score of 2 goals to 1, with Zack Schilawski, assisted by Kenny Mansally, scoring the game winning goal for the Revolution in the 87th minute. Mansally shot the ball while the Railhawks goal keeper slid to block the ball, resulting in it deflecting off his chest and towards Schilawski's direction. He easily tapped the ball into the back of the net. For his celebration, he jogged over to where some of the Cary High fans gathered behind the Railhawks goal, and gave his former high school varsity coach, Coach Dunphy, a hug.

I had the chance to interview Zack Schilawski after the game. When I asked him about how Cary High and living in Cary has influenced his soccer career, Zack put it simply: "Being around Coach Dunphy has made the biggest influence on my career. He's my mentor on and off the field." Zack is really excited to be playing for the New England Revolution. He thinks it's a great team with great teammates and a great coaching staff. "The older players on the team have really helped me make the transition from college soccer to professional," he commented. With all of the changes in the level of playing from high school to college, and from college to professional, Zack still "absolutely" loves soccer just as much as he did while playing under Coach Dunphy for Cary High School.
