A Prayer of Affirmaton During Hard Economic Times

Shirley A Mandel
Like they say, Lord,
"Things are hard all over."

Jobs are scarce,
and Uncle Sam is
putting the screws to the poor
through taxes and such.
The elderly didn't get a raise this year,
and the energy barons
are "laughing all the way to the bank"
with their money.

And we don't dare
burn an extra light at night.

It just doesn't look good
for "Joe the Plumber"
or his grandfather right now.

But I trust you with my money, Lord.
I cast my future at your feet.

I know that those feet,
that walked to the cross,
will not fail me.

And those hands that were nailed
to the rough wood won't fail me.

That heart that was pierced by the sword
beats for me
and all your truely humble followers.

You haven't failed me yet, Jesus,
not in 57 years of troubled life.

My future,
both here and in the hereafter,
is in capable, loving hands.

Amen
