A Preview of 2011's Victoria Film Festival and an Early Look at George A. Romero's Appearance

The Victoria Film Festival is an annual event held on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. This cinematic event incorporates the most relevant films from around the world. This year's festival begins February 4th, with the final curtain call February 11th. Below are some of the most interesting films appearing at the festival and each film is paired with an introductory plot summary.

"Blame" is a thriller from first time director Michael Henry, which is set in Australia. Several friends go to great lengths to right the wrong of a sexual betrayal.

The synopsis from VFF: "A film about a group of young vigilantes seeking revenge for a sexual betrayal. However, when the truth is out they find themselves on the dark side of justice."

"The People vs. George Lucas" has received praise from film critics for making light of this famous man's life and his interactions with fans. The conflicts and the drama unfold, as thirty years of Lucas' life is explored. Special cameos in the film include Roger Ebert, Matt Cohen, and others.

One final standout is director J. Clay Tweel's Make "Believe". This documentary follows several practicioning and developing magicians, who each hope to be crowned Teen World Champion at a world renowned magic show held in Las Vegas. The teens from the film come from various places around the world to unite in this one night of spectacle.

There are several other films of note to play at the 2011 Victoria Film Festival including George A. Romero's "Survival of the Dead," the horrifyingly funny "Bone Man" from director Wolfgang Murnberger, and the Chinese buddy movie "Cow" from writer Hu Guan. Over 160 films will play during the festival and several celebrities will be in attendance.

George A. Romero has already announced his participation February 5th, to coincide with the showing of his film, "Survival of the Dead." Ron Mann from "Comic Book Confidential" will also be attendance, along with Larry Weinstein ("Inside Hanna's Suitcase)". More guest appearances will be announced close to the film festival's opening night.
