A Preview of the Biggest Movies of Summer 2007

Attack of the Summer Blockbuster

Big Daddy H.G.
It's almost June so for movie lovers this is the best time of the year. That is if you like the big budget, big star, big hype blockbuster popcorn movies like I do. I have always been a fan of the summer movie blockbusters. To me this is what going to the movies is all about. I guess I am just a pop culture sucker. I know that the more money a movie costs to make does not always equal a good movie. I do think that most of the time when the best actors, directors, and special effects people in the business are on board, you have a great chance of having a good time at the cinema. This is the whole point of going to a movie, at least it is for me.

With the ease of being able to watch movies at home I will rarely make the trip to the cinema. It has to be something really special for me to make the trip. Most folks now have home theatres with surround sound and big screen televisions so you can have the theatre experience without leaving the comfort of home. There is still nothing like the experience of going out to the movies. The smell of the popcorn and the buzz in the crowd is impossible to duplicate at home. This is especially true when the movie is a must see blockbuster and the place is packed. Also, most theatres now have stadium seating and plenty of leg room to try to compete with the convenience and comfort of staying at home. Unfortunately for most folks the ticket and food prices make it hard to take a family to see a flick.

Summer movies however still bring out the big crowds and I am not ashamed to say I am still one movie lover who will pay my hard earned money to go. So in case your like me and can't afford to see all the movies I have compiled a list of some of the biggest movies of this summer. There have been some movies already released and reviewed by many, including this author. I will stick to the movies that have yet to be released as of today 05/28. You decide which ones you just can't wait to see at home. Enjoy and don't forget to save us some popcorn, extra butter please.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Release Date: July 13th

Rating: Not Yet Rated

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grant, Michael Gambon, Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman

Description: I will have to admit that I have not seen any of the previous Harry Potter movies. My daughters are big fans of this series. They have read all the books and seen every movie. From what I can gather from reading online, this is Harry's 5th year at Hogwarts School. He is 15 years old, is becoming rebellious and falling in love. Sounds like a typical teenager to me. Harry is also feeling nervous because he received news from the magic world that evil Lord Voldermont has been revived. I do not know who that is but I am sure Harry has good reason to be worried.

These are not all of the big movies from this summer of course but these are the ones that should be the biggest grossing of the summer. I hope you enjoyed this preview. Look for reviews of each movie from me after I have seen them. Have fun at the movies and we shall see you at the concession stand.
