A Primer on the Recent Controversies Created by 30 Rock Star, Tracy Morgan

Tracy Morgan is a former SNL alumni and stars on the comedy hit 30 Rock. But it isn't all roses and accolades for the star. He will be hosting Spike TV's "Guys Choice" awards on June 13^th. As an added accessory, he will be wearing the never fashionable alcohol monitoring device around his ankle.

He has been plagued with allegations of several alcohol related incidents in the recent past. In February of 2007, Morgan pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunk driving charges in New York. He also pleaded no contest for a DUI charge that he racked up in Los Angeles. The alcohol monitoring device is court ordered and his part of his treatment. He has to wear the device for two months.

It was only a few weeks ago that a Miami disc jockey filed a complaint for misdemeanor battery against the comedian because he allegedly groped her, and she said he smelled of alcohol at the time. Morgan wisely decided not to comment on the incident because he said, "It's still being worked out and resolved."

To add insult to injury, there is a video clip of Morgan appearing on a Texas ABC affiliate morning show where he appears to be stinking drunk. He proceeded to take off his shirt, smack his stomach and then he joked that the sound is a "mating call." Ewwww. Mr. Morgan insists he wasn't drunk at the time and that he is disappointed that the negative media coverage concerning his alcoholic incidents has taken on a "life of its own." Sorry Tracy, the way I see it, the alcohol has made you take on a drunken persona you had better lose fast before you lose your job.

When he discusses his drunk driving, his explanation for it is that it happened. He alleges he is not perfect, just like anyone else. He goes on to say that drunk driving isn't cool and that he has children and he is not looking to give people the wrong message about that. He says that it is something he has resolved in his life. How resolved can be argued, considering the man is wearing an alcohol monitoring device, so it's pretty obvious to all that he can't be trusted to stay sober.

But then again, bad behavior is often rewarded in Hollywood these days. As long as the actor/celebrity in question is a moneymaker, then whatever uncomfortable situations they find themselves in can be forgiven. That is as long as the public continues to invest their money in the celebrity's projects in question.

The final word from Tracy Morgan is that he is dealing with his alcohol problems one day at a time. He goes on to say he doesn't know about tomorrow, but today he doesn't want to drink. Tracy Morgan is a married man and the father of three.

Another poster boy for bad behavior on the show is the smarmy Alec Baldwin. He went off on an angry rant to his 12 year old daughter calling her a "thoughtless pig." Tina Fey better keep her eyes on these two, or else all her hard work will have been for naught. Slap them around a bit and keep these guys in line, I say. You go get 'em girl!
