Personally I would be lost now without my handy little Nokia cell phone and if I misplace it, I start to panic and toss things around while I look for it in a frenzy. If I walk out the door without it, I feel like I'm going to miss somebody, like my husband or daughter, depending on which place I am at the time, California or Canada. My Nokia is a lifeline to my little family.
I have a few friends and family members that still don't have one, but once you have one it is difficult not to carry your cell phone with you everywhere.
I've had my Nokia 6010 cell phone for about 3 years now, so obviously it isn't one of the trendy, tiny super function and option cell phones, but it does what I need it too and that is the main purpose of having a cell phone, isn't it?
I can't really fit it in a pocket, but then again, it isn't as easy to lose or misplace as some of the smaller ones either. Sometimes all the newest bells and whistles on electronic gadgets have not had all the kinks worked out of them, even after they have been released to the public for purchase, and sometimes as fun as new features are to have and play with, they can make a simple piece of equipment into a real headache when things go wrong with new features. Of course that just gives the manufacturers more future sales, so they can sell the new and improved version, within months sometimes. I'm perfectly content with my Nokia 6010 for now.
I can read emails, send and receive texts, play a few games, and call much of the United States and Canada with no problem with my Nokia cell phone.
I have two regular chargers and even one that plugs into the lighter outlet in my car, which to me is an added plus. I found it at Radio Shack. I hid the lighter anyhow, so no one can use it to smoke in my car. That gives my Nokia 6010 cell phone it's own little spot in my car, when I'm driving around.
I also have an ear phone cord that plugs in the bottom of my cell phone, to use when it is not appropriate to have the cell phone ringing out loud and now with stricter laws in California regarding cell phone usage while driving, it is a necessary extra piece of equipment to have when I need to talk on my little blue Nokia. Granted one of the newer cordless ear attachments, that can be used away from the base cell phone will be nice to have eventually, but this works for now too.
The older style cell phone is a little more hardy and user friendly than the newer folding kind and the number keys are a little bigger. I've seen a few people easily break the snap open kind, because they seem to be more delicate and touchy, but hopefully mine will be like the Energizer Bunny and keep going and going and going, at least until I can afford a new one.
I had an older model Nokia before this one, with basically the same shape, but it really did become outdated.
It could only be used in two spots in my house. I literally mean spots. In order to use it in my work area, which is my library, I had to stand in one square foot at certain times of the day, facing the window, often with it open, to even be able to use it indoors.
In certain neighborhoods, I had to go out in the middle of the street, away from the houses, to even get my old Nokia to work and reach a signal. Imagine standing outside at 2 a.m. on a dark road , talking to your then fiancé, now husband while watching for oncoming cars. As the ad says< "Can you hear me NOW?" had a very unique and personal meaning for me. I was so glad when I got a newer more functiona Nokia, model 6010.
Now with my newer, and yes I know already outdated , Nokia 6010 I can hear fine, all throughout my house and everywhere else I go, unless of course a tower goes down or I'm in some remote part of Canada. Driving across a frozen lake in my car, out in the Northern parts of Ontario, in the dead of winter was one problem spot. Obviously there are no towers where there are few people to use them, but give them time and they will get around those kinds of obstacles too.
After a lot of usage, some of the silver paint around the numbers and symbols on the Nokia keypad began to wear off, but I solved that problem by purchasing a simple leather case with a clear window to protect the keypad and it hasn't worn down anymore.
All in all, I'm happy with my CA. to CA. communicator, my Nokia cell.
