"Quaker Caramel Corn Rice Cakes" come in a predominantly dark blue bag with stripes of sky blue and caramel. The package is also adorned with the traditional smiling Quaker and a tantalizing picture of the product topped with icing and bananas. The bag also has a green ribbon that tells me each cake has only 50 calories and five grams of Whole grain per cake. So I know I'm getting something that won't break my diet.
"Quaker Caramel Corn Rice Cakes" are not my mother's rice cakes! They are even better than some early incarnations of caramel rice cakes I had in my late teens. Yes they are still dry and crumbly, but the flavor is great. Some versions of Quakers Rice cakes are dusty, so I wouldn't recommend eating them in a dark suit on the way to work. But the flavoring on "Quaker Caramel Corn Rice Cakes" more or less stays put.
And while they are crumbly, the crunch is very nice, the flavor of the rice cake itself isn't too bad (maybe it's the whole grain?), though the caramel flavor dominates. And that's fine with me because the caramel sweet and delicious. My daughter even likes them and she isn't watching her weight.
These rice cakes taste really decadent, so it's hard to believe that they aren't bad for me. While there isn't a lot of nutritional power in "Quaker Caramel Corn Rice Cakes" beyond a bit of protein, they do satisfy a craving that I could fill in far worse ways. Especially when I want a quick little something after work and before supper. I usually have two of them at a time, but 100 calories are still pretty reasonable, especially with no fat. I also find that the size and shape of a rice cake keeps me from eating a lot of them. I've had bags of half-dollar sized rice snacks that are also pretty good for me, but I end up eating a lot more.
All in all, I really recommend "Quaker Caramel Corn Rice Cakes", especially if you are trying to watch your weight. Even if you aren't counting calories these are a tasty treat. There's even a recipe for the banana topped treat on the front of the bag, though, unlike their stale predecessors, "Quaker Caramel Corn Rice Cakes" stand very well on their own.
Enjoy!

Post a CommentI wish I had come great diet recipes, but the truth be told, I'm not much of a cook. I found that the best way for me to lose weight was to eat the same foods I always did, but to eat less of it. I used measuring cups to make sure I was only eating a serving of things. This worked really well for me, but it might not be the best for you. The things you listed sounded great though! I know fiber makes you feel fuller without all the calories. I wish you the best as your surgery and recovery approach. I will keep you on my prayer list!
Hey Tina,
I did receive your comment, & wanted to reply. I used to be called Sinny Pooh Bean Pole. That was a few yrs back, before I've had waaay too many disk in my back go out to count, so, that's my main reason for being lazy some days. OUCH! I've been trying to eat lots of greens, brown rice, fruits, & fiber, because I have my main surgery coming in May. But, I still can't help myself, I love my rice cakes still. If you have any tips on easy diet foods, that work, Please throw some my way? I'm trying to gather recipes I can cook, or fix, easily, because it's a 6 Mo. recovery- at least! I'ld truly appreciate any tips on foods I can eat while having to stay down for a little while, & I can't handle the weight I'm at now. Hope all is well with you Ms.Twito, & I'll check back in a few days to see if you got my MSG. Take Care & Be Well
Don't know if "Pooh Bear" will see this, but I definitely know what you mean. I always overeat "diet" snacks. which kind of defeats the purpose I think! Don't know if too many will make you sick right away, but I think it could lead to problems down the line.
Wow, seems like people found a different snack. Last post 2009. Well, I'm trying to lose WT" before surgery, & just plain ole because I'm too heavy. Boy, I miss being 33! Any way, I found some generic caramel rice cakes & I'm HOOKED!!! Unfortunatly, I eat way TOO MANY per day. Sometimes when tired, that's all I reach for. I was truly just wondering if they can make me sick from eating 2-4 bags a day. YES, that's sometimes what I eat. That right there's my 2,000 Cal. diet limit. They taste so good & I can't help myself. Come on, some one back me here? Besides the owner of the Co. I could be drinking my Calories. Thnxs for listening---Hope to get a response, even if it's from that closet eater I hear crunching in the dark!!!
Thanks! I'll have to try the ranch. You'll know I have when I review it! :)
I love Quaker rice cakes! The ranch flavored ones are my favorite :) These ones are good too though. Great job on all these reviews.
