A Product Review: Sally Hansen's Naturally Bare Honey Body Wax

D. Ilean
It looks great on the store shelf. It even looks great in your medicine chest. Undoubtedly, this wax, which comes in a small, clear plastic container, is visually attractive: it's a mostly clear (with a slight honeyed-tint), easy to spread, lovely to smell gel that looks like exactly what you've been hoping for. You read the description, and it's even better! This wax has natural ingredients. No need to microwave. The stripes for hair removal come along in the box. With Sally Hansen's Naturally Bare honey body wax, so much goes right with its appearance and description that it's hard to imagine things could go wrong with the application! But, unfortunately for this consumer, things took a dark turn, quickly.

What's Good About Sally Hansen's Naturally Bare Body Wax

As previously mentioned, it's pretty to look at, and it is mostly clear, which most people who perform home waxes will tell you, is a definite benefit; you are able to see what you're doing at all times. It smells sweet, but not overpoweringly so. It's a natural product, which is good in two ways. First, there isn't a long list of chemicals being chucked into the bottle and then spread across your skin. And it's good for the environment. That's always nice. Secondly, this sugary wax washes off easily with soap and warm water (in fact, with just warm water, if you have a little patience). And it glides smoothly, no matter what you're using to apply the product. No muss, no fuss, right? The price is decent, too - about ten dollars at the average drugstore for 6.7 oz bottle plus some applicators and strips. That's pretty average for these kinds of products. And that would all be great, except for...

What's Bad About Sally Hansen's Naturally Bare Body Wax

So you're smiling because this product is so easy to use. You slide on the gel, lay down the strip according to instructions, and quickly pull off in the direction opposite of hair growth. You wince, because it kind of hurts, but it's all worth it because you just removed a lot of unwanted hair, right? Wrong! This product fails in a very fundamental sort of way. Despite it being a body wax, it doesn't remove hair. This consumer tried it on three separate occasions (and has had a lot of generally successful experiences with home body waxes, mind you), but every time ended in failure. There was a little pain, but mostly just a lot of gooey wax doing no particular good. Disappointing much!

Overall Verdict for Sally Hansen's Naturally Bare Body Wax

Sally, send it back to the factory, because this product doesn't work. It doesn't matter how great every other feature is; if a body wax doesn't wax, it's useless. And so is Sally Hansen's Naturally Bare Body Wax. Granted, there have no doubt been some small number of people who have managed to get it to work. But if you buy this product, don't be surprised if it ends up being a paper weight.
