A Project Runway Blast from the Past: Season 2 Winner Chloe Dao Update

Rachel Heller
After a year of Project Runway withdraw, it made it much anticipated return this August. I have been a huge fan of Project Runway from the beginning. I love everything about Project Runway from the challenges to the designers from Heidi Klum to Tim Gunn, Project Runway rocks down the runway. I couldn't wait until the season six premiere of the show because it's my favorite reality show of all time. There are a few standout fashion designers this season on Project Runway; I am a big fan of Christopher, Logan, Carol Hannah, and Althea. The dark horse of this season of Project Runway is Nicholas. I am on pins and needles waiting to see who will be out and who will be in, and ultimately, who will win season six of Project Runway.

In addition to keeping up with the current crop of up and coming designers on Project Runway I am also curious to see what part winners of the show are doing today. I am happy to report that season two winner, Chloe Dao, is a Project Runway blast from the past that has thrived since her time on the show. I thought that she would succeed after winning Project Runway because she did well in the challenges on the show, she understood women's bodies and she made clothes that women and men want to wear. She also made a good decision on her road to fashion designer success after the show because Chloe accepted the winning prize money of $100,000 and the mentorship from Banana Republic.

Chloe had her own business before she won Project Runway; therefore after winning season 2 of Project Runway, she invested the $100,000 into her clothing store in Houston, Texas. Moreover, her fashion designs were showcased in the Smithsonian Museum with the "Enter Saigon, Exit, Little Saigon" exhibit. Also, her natural ability to understand women's bodies earned her a Dove contract as their national spokeswoman for their "Sleeveless Ready" campaign.

She had success at New York Fashion Week a second time in the spring of 2007. This was because Chloe was chosen as the featured designer and as a panelist by Lens Crafters in a eyewear as the "it" accessory discussion; during this appearance at New York Fashion Week she was reunited with Project Runway's resident and fabulous mentor, Tim Gunn.

Chloe also made a return to television selling a 13 piece collection on QVC. Every item of clothing sold out during the broadcast. She unveiled her wholesale clothing line called Dao Chloe Dao in March of 2008. There is good news for women who wish to buy her clothes because her collection is available at www.lot8online.com and http://www.chloedao.com.

I love Project Runway and it is nice knowing that it is more than a wonderful reality show. It also is a true stepping stone for fresh faced fashion designers looking to advance or begin their fashion careers.
