A Psychic's Story in the RELUCTANT PROPHET

Nick Howes
THE RELUCTANT PROPHET, Daniel Logan, 1969, Avon, 192pp, paperback.

A quick-reading little book you may stumble across at the local Friends of the Library book sale (as I did) about psychic Daniel Logan, who is still around and has his own website.

Mostly this is the personal account of his own growing awareness and use of his talent, the last chapter does focus on useful information with a details on what he believes to be the key to developing your own talent -- meditation. Also, there are some predictions, now dated, on major events. Some proved out true, some did not.

A diverting read. I've learned more elsewhere though in Logan's defense, he does say his intention was only to tell his story for those who wanted to know how it came about for him.

Changing The Future

Logan seems to come close to my own view of the future. I think that the past is set but the future is merely potential, due to the potential for change in every raindrop, multiplying geometrically as time goes on.

As T.E. Lawrence tells Auda Abu Tayi in Lawrence of Arabia, "It is not written."

The idea is pretty simple. Psychics like Logan have a shot at tapping the potential of the future and to this he himself agrees in his book, saying that he is merely producing information on the most likely future.

And the timeline is subject to change, says Logan.

I agree. My own epiphany resulted from a prophetic dream...the only one I can ever recall having. As a teenager, I dreamed of a confrontation with my father that resulted in the beating of my life, launched by a thoughtless remark. Some time later...a day, a couple days...I suddenly recognized I was experiencing the dream conversation with my father that led to the situation I wanted to avoid.

Without intervening, I let the conversation flow without interruption, just as it flowed in the dream, Dad responded with the exact words he had used, then it got to the critical, flippant remark. The remark itself meant nothing but, upon reflection, I later realized my Dad would no doubt respond to it as violently as he had in my dream. At best, being around Dad held potential danger. Kind of like arm wrestling with a grizzly.

At this point, I did intervene in the flow of the conversation and changed the remark I was on the verge of responding with and everything ended peacefully. I couldn't tell you what the conversation was about or what the critical exchange was, but I remain convinced it would have ended as I was warned had I not been heeded the message. (I could've used the dream on other occasions, like when my head was put through the wall and I was beaten for making a hole in the wall.)

The lesson about the future that I learned from this is not only can you get a warning about future events but, if heeded, you can change the future. (And, in turn, that goes back to my point about the future as potential and not as unalterbaly set.)

Logan's book is a light, entertaining read, similar to books of its type. If this appeals to you, keep an eye out for it.

It would be interesting to have psychic ability. I guess it can be developed to some degree. Fascinating article, Nick. :-)
