A Puppy Named Jacob

S. Morris
As a puppy he was more timid than the other brothers and sisters. He pushed around to find his mom's milk. Feeling overcrowded, he squeezed between all the other pups. He seemed so small. Black as night, with brown eyes. There were five others his color. One boy and four girls. There were also one tan brother and one tan sister. All were very cute. At four weeks old, he was still needing his mother. Yet, little did he know, he would be needing a new home. The people who took care of them, couldn't provide them one much longer. One day a family came by to look at them. He saw three younger girls and a mom. A family! All of the puppies were being held. He looked around, till he felt a gentle hands pick him up slow and careful. He knew already this girl would be special. She had sandy blond hair and green eyes. Why is she here? He wandered. What is going to happen? Then gently she placed him back on the ground. Then they all walked away. Where are they going? He thought that nice girl would not be coming back. Then a few days later he was outside playing with his brothers and sisters in the warm sun. He heard a sound and leaped through the grass around the yard. At the gate was a familiar face. That girl was back! Hmm? She hurried over to him. He was a bit worried at first. Until he felt her pick him up with such care. He had a good feeling. He noticed that his two brothers were being picked up by the other two girls. What could be going on he thought? They were all being carried towards the gate and still were not put back on the ground. All three puppies looked at each other surprised. Where are they going? He felt the girl petting him. It made him feel at ease. He really liked her already. They all got in a car. He sat on her lap quietly. He was always more nervous and shy than the other puppies. After what seemed like a long car ride. The moving had stopped. He sniffed the air. So many new and interesting smells. He hesitated when it was time to get out. The girl walked him around. What a strange place Where are all the others. I have my two brothers, but where is mom and my sisters? Then he heard the girl say a name, Jacob. Who was she talking to? She is looking at me? I really am uncertain why I am being called Jacob. He moved on, around this new place sniffing everything. She told him this is your new home! Jacob the Little black puppy thought, a new home! Forever? Then he quietly spent time with his new owner on the couch inside. He could hear all the excitement in her voice as she talked with all the people. Then he noticed a mans voice. Her dad, I suppose. After a while the girls left. He was a bit confused. The man ended up taking care of all three most of the time during the first year. His owner came and visited, mostly on weekends. She walked him, cuddled with him, and played fetch with him. Jacob grew and grew. He got to be big, even a little bigger than his brothers. Jacob liked his home for the most part. Except for two other male dogs taking his territory and there weren't many trees around. So in the summer it got very hot without much shade. Then one day, at about three years of age, his owner came to live with him. He absolutely loved it! They lived together there for three more years. Then one day they moved far away, at least it felt far away. His new home was amazing! Big beautiful trees everywhere. A big yard to play in. A life every dog wants, deserves, and dreams of. Every day , now ten years old, Jacob has lived a happy and fun life.
