A Quick and Easy Way to Make a Homemade Felt Glasses Case

Cassie B. Adonoson
Having a case for your glasses is an important thing to have. Without a case, glasses can get scratched, or even broken. But cases are expensive, bulky and sometimes hard to find. Here I'll show you a quick and easy way to make a glasses case for either your eyeglasses, reading glasses or sunglasses.

Designs are interchangeable, so feel free to make some changes to the extras to make it more unique and more like your personal style.

The first thing you need is felt. It can be any color. It is important to check and make sure the felt won't scratch your glasses though. If you think there is a chance it will, you will need to also get a a piece of soft fabric that will work as a liner. If you head over to www.craftideas.com and search for a felt case, it will provide a template for you as well. Which is always helpful when sewing. It also recommends fusible web, which will attach the liner to the felt. This is the best method I recommend, as it will not leave stitch marks on the outside of your glasses case.

If you use fusible web, lay the felt out and line the liner up with it. Use an iron to attach the liner. If you decide to use a stitch, simply lay the felt out the same way and attach the liner with stitches.

Now that you have the liner attached, it's time to add some decorations. Maybe you want stars, or flowers. If you head to pretty much any craft store, you can find these attachable shapes made out of either felt or another fabric. If you'd like to make your own, simply look for a template on the Internet, and cut them from felt yourself. This way, you have a more personal touch added. I recommend buying fabric glue if you plan to add decorations, because this adhesive will work the best on felt.

Next, fold the felt over, so the liner is on the inside. Use a blanket stitch to sew three sides of the case shut. If you need an example of how to do a blanket stitch, again I recommend www.craftideas.com. It provides great examples of how to perform certain stitches.

You are pretty much finished. If you need to attach any jewels or anything with the fabric glue, go ahead and do so now. Then, admire your work!
