Makeup can be a great beauty tool, but it can also be a disaster if not applied correctly. At some point, all of us women have had the dreaded foundation line, lipstick on the teeth, or some other makeup woe. However, these can be easily corrected with the right know how. The best part is, you don't have to be an expert to look like your makeup was professionally applied. Here are a few tips and tricks that every woman should know about fixing common foundation makeup mistakes.

There are several issues when working with foundation. Namely, the dreaded foundation line or the orange tint. Both are unattractive but luckily can be quickly corrected. Before focusing on fixing these mistakes, we need to have a chat about prevention. The single most effective way to ensure that your foundation looks natural is to purchase the right foundation. Most often than not, these lines and funny tints are created because the consumer is using the wrong shade of makeup.

Now that this is out of the way, let's focus on correction. Buffing gently at the jawline, the most common area of a foundation line may be enough to reverse the effect. Keep in mind, if the individual has applied one of the various types of color stay makeup products it may take a little more work. For this reason, it is always a good idea to have a loose powder. Compact powder will do but can be tricky to maneuver and can cause the pancake look. If possible, the powder should be a neutral tone or sheer.

After gently buffing the foundation line with a tissue or cotton ball, apply a small amount of powder to the area. A little bit of makeup makeup will go a long way. Be sure to stay on and below the line slightly. The powder should be blended in a circular motion, using small amounts at a time. You do not want to over correct. Continue this until the desired outcome is achieved. If the foundation line is a drastic shade from the natural skin tone, consider using a moisturizer on the line prior to powdering.

Foundation makeup can be made quite simple. If you find that you are frequently battling with this type of makeup line, you may want to consider another foundation. Not all are created equal. For those who may have problems finding a suitable shade, opt for the shade darker and mix a lighter base. One of my personal favorites, the mineral makeup from Revlon. The foundation goes on as a powder and I've yet to have that hideous line or orange glow. For many women, changing foundation may be enough to eliminate this problem.
