A Quick Guide to Reflexology and Its Benefits

A regular massage session is known to benefit the body and mind in revitalizing the energy flow of our bodies. From time to time, you may find certain parts and functions of your body requiring specific attention that may not necessary be related to muscles and joints and in this case, you may want to consider a reflexology massage to target that particular area.

An ancient form of massage through Egyptian and Chinese cultures, reflexology is a complementary and alternative method of targeting pressure points on your feet in relation to the areas of discomfort in our bodies. It is practiced through squeezing, pressing, pushing and massaging parts of our feet in attempt to improve the functions of the inner organs or parts of our bodies each section is associated with, and it is said that if there is a problem with certain areas, it will hurt more than usual.

The theory behind reflexology is the manipulation of the inner body energy, also called Chi in ancient Chinese that is vital to our everyday wellbeing. Blocked or badly run chi can cause problems with certain parts of our body function and is the centre focus for the pressure points on our feet used by reflexology.

This massage method has been widely criticised by the medical community, rejecting the claims of reflexology being able to cure illnesses in parts of the body without proof. Although not recommended for those who is critically ill, reflexology is still a preferred method for improving health conditions.

A reflexology session begins with a warm towel on the feet or a warm footbath to generate circulation to the feet. Massage oil should be used to soften the tissues as well as ease the friction of rubbing the skin. Unless specifically arranged, the reflexologist will work through each and every pressure point, stimulating the flow of the chi throughout the body. The patient should feel no pain unless targeted points associate to certain weakness or malfunction in the body.

Despite doubts from the medical industry, many have benefited from reflexology. Modern reflexologies use a combination of massage and essential oils to stimulate the mind and improve results. Regular reflexology sessions can improve general health conditions, especially those often suffer with insomnia, bad appetite or lack of concentration. Regular reflexology sessions can also improve other daily health issues such as migraines; irregular periods; lack of urinary control; general maintenance of well-being and even as a form of improving bedroom performances.

Today, reflexology is a popular alternative medicine and takes many forms from general reflexology, Thai reflexology and Chinese reflexology. Care should be taken with selecting certified and well trained reflexologists to prevent possible damage, and If you have any form of injury such as a broken toe or sprained ankles, wait until its full recovery before attending a reflexology session to prevent further injury.
