One of the greatest times each year for the NBBA is the World Series of Beep Baseball. The World Series is held internationally ever year, around the last week of July and first week of August. The World Series of Beep Baseball has been taking place every year on time since 1976.
Run Down of Beep Baseball:
The ball beeps as to allow the players to hear where the ball is. The bases will make a buzzing sound so that the players know which way to run and to which base to run to. Beep baseball differs greatly from traditional baseball but is just as challenging and rewarding as the traditional version of the sport.
Differing from traditional baseball in the sense that there are only two bases instead of three and that the pitcher and batter are on the same team. It is the pitchers job to help the batter to hit the ball. Since some of the players may still have some of their sight left, all the players, save for the pitcher and catcher, are blindfolded to make the game fair for all.
Another difference is that the defensive team does not have to throw the ball around amongst themselves and get the ball to the base before the batter reaches the base. Instead in beep baseball, the batter is out if any person on the defensive team holds the ball up for the umpire to see.
Overview of Starting a Beep Baseball Team:
Starting a beep baseball team can be a fun and exciting way to volunteer your time. You do not have to be visually impaired or blind to start a beep baseball team. To start a beep baseball team, two sighted individuals are needed. The sighted individuals will be positioned as the pitcher and as catcher. Also each beep baseball team needs sighted people to drive them to games and tournaments. The team will then consist of five to six visually impaired or blind players aside from the two sighted players.
Everyone should remember that playing on a beep baseball team requires a lot of dedication and hard work. Not to mention that playing baseball is expensive. You will need equipment and uniforms, the cost of travel can also add up. To play in tournaments there is the expensive of registration fees.
If the money is not an issue and you want to start your own beep baseball team, contact the NBBA for help. They have available brochures, videos and various publications that will help you make your team a success.
NBBA Website:
The NBBA Website will give anyone a great look into the world of beep baseball. I recommend that anyone interested in baseball of any kind take a tour of their website. The NBBA website has showcased all beep baseball players that were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Also a favorite area of the site is the World Series page were you can get information on all the past World Series.
