A Quick Review of "The Town"

The Town is about a group of four guys who are really good at robbing banks and armored trucks. When a hold-up at a bank goes wrong they are forced to take a hostage, Claire Keesey (played by Rebecca Hall). They eventually let Claire go but Doug MacRay (played by Ben Affleck and the leader of the pack of bank robbers) must determine if she saw anything of significance during the robbery. He enters her life in an effort to determine this and what do you know, they fall in love. Despite wanting out of the game so he can runaway with Claire, MacRay is forced to do one last hold-up even though the police are breathing down the necks of him and his gang. ****SPOILER ALERT****. This last job goes terribly wrong and the other three members of his group are killed. By this time the cops have figured out that he and Claire have a little relationship going and they try to use her as bait but MacRay is to smart for that. He gets out of town and leaves Claire a bag full of money so she can use it to build a brand new ice skating rink for the youth of Charlestown.

Things I did not have time to mention above. MacRay and the relationship between his father (Chris Cooper in real life) is one sub-plot. The relationship between MacRay and former girlfriend Krista Coughlin (Blake Lively in real life) also complicates things assuming that Coughlin ultimately gives police the info they need to stop the last job. Others stars that appear in the movie are Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, and Pete Postlethwaite.

The Town was a lot of fun to watch but it was not as good as I expected it to be. I honestly expected a little more and I really did not get it. After hearing about how it was snubbed at some of the award shows, I thought I was going to see a movie for the ages. It was a great movie but it is not something I am going to have to watch again really soon nor is it something that would even go into my top 20 list.
