A Quick Way to Add More Images to Support Your Content on AC

A to Z Guide to Increasing Pageviews: I is for Instructables

Pam Gaulin
Have you ever had a serendipitous moment, when you were busy trying to do five other things, and the answer to the question that's plaguing you for days suddenly appears in your web browser?

That is exactly what happened. I had stopped thinking about the I installment in this series, when up popped the most incredible site: Instructables. Don't ask me how I found it. My web trails are long, precipitous, and hard to track.

Instructables is a a web site where people upload images and instructions for creating items. Instructables is incredibly compatible with AC, and can work in tandem with your AC text-based tutorial and instruction articles. According to Instructables, "the best instructables are written by people who are passionate about what they do and want to share their knowledge." Sound familiar? This site is a perfect companion site for AC users.

What on earth could this have to do with pageviews and how can it help you increase your pageviews? I see two possibilities here, for using Instructables to help increase your pageviews.

Two Ways Instructables can Help Increase Pageviews At AC

1. Anyone creating detailed tutorials or instruction-based articles on AC who finds themselves needing more than the maximum 5 images, can use Instructables to post more photos. The Instructables page is designed for photo-heavy instruction.

It may seem strange to send people away from AC for further instruction, but it;s not. There are three places to add links at the bottom of the article. Add a note to the end of the article referencing the further visual aids that can be used to help the reader.

By providing this additional resource, you will create a repeat visitor. Repeat visitors are essential to increasing pageviews. When a visitor to your content knows that they can find specific content, plus added bonuses, they will be back for more.

2. The second way that using Instructables will help increase your pageviews, is with your Instructables profile. There is a place for your AC or blog link in your profile. You can direct people to find more content and instructions by you at AC in the "About Your" section.

Tips for Using Instructables

1. Sign up for a page, upload a photo, and include your web site address, at AC, or on a blog.

2. Add some photo-heavy instructions to Instructables to get some content on your Instructables page.

3. When including text at Instructables, be careful not to compromise the the copyright. If you sold AC exclusive rights, do not use the same text you use at AC. Rewrite the photo captions and instructions on Instructables.

4. Instructables works best with Firefox (download for free if you haven't already)

5. Just to be safe, even though all the text you wrote at Instructables is original, select "No license" as the license type, which maintains your full copyright.

Using Instructables as an additional resource to provide additional visuals to your content is one way to increase pageviews. Plus, it's fun!
