I don't know about you, but sometimes thinking about the fragility of our existence here on earth, whether this is due to climate change, a natural disaster, or a terrorist attack changing life as we know it, or ending everything, gives me nightmares and I sometimes wonder what the future holds in store for us.
The news that we read every day is rarely happy news. It's full of tragedies and disasters, either natural or caused by man's greed or stupidity.
Our world could be a much happier place if more people just cared. If they cared about our planet, our environment, and about their fellow man, how much better life could be, instead of full of sadness.
The poem rambles a lot, like my brain, but I hope you like it...
I read the news today, oh boy
More tragedies it seems with every day
There wasn't really any joy
Just death and destruction in every way
Some people killed inside a car
A plane crashed far away in Pakistan
A family found dead inside their home
How much more sad news can we stand
I sometimes dread going online
What else occurred during my sleep
Another bomb, another crash
The news is enough to make you weep
Disasters natural or man made
They often fill my dreams at night
I sometimes wake up quite afraid
And then can't sleep because of fright
Our modern world is so hi-tech
Science has created wonders
And yet nothing is perfect
Tragedy the result of blunders
Although we live in amazing times
Our future still is not secure
Man's greed and terrorism means
Millions starving and so poor
All it takes is one big rock
To fall to earth from outer space
Like the dinosaurs long before
So easily ends the human race
I try to dwell not on these things
And like instead to share some fun
With things like Jokes and Offbeat News
To make folks laugh and not feel glum
Laughter is a cure for the blues
And helps to take away your woes
Takes your mind off tragic news
And makes you smile from head to toe
So come and help me spread some joy
It's all too easy to be sad
Share a joke with all your friend
And don't forget your Mom and Dad
Also be nice to folks you meet
And do a favor for a friend
Watch the smile show on their cheek
On that you can depend
If only more folks took the time
To help someone that they can
Those good deeds multiply each day
It's good to see man help man
My mind it tends to wander free
As you can see from this mixed rhyme
From one thought to another
My thoughts drift all the time
But like it, I hope you do
And can identify with me
Enough of the sad news for today
Let's make this one of glee

Well done, Tony. Thanks!
Yes, it's too bad our humanity has not kept up with our technology.
Very nice.... :o)
Tony this is sooo beautiful, and oh so true, it's just as easy to smile as to frown.
I feel better now.
