The first year I used it, we went on a family trip in another state and ran into some heavy rainstorms along the way. Because we were on the highway, going at a decent clip, the rain just beaded up and slid right off the windshield. We didn't even need the windshield wipers! Needless to say, that totally had us hooked on RAIN-X.
It's really very simple stuff to use. Now sold in spray bottles as well, you just can just spray and rub on with a soft cloth or paper towel. Use it sparingly as a little goes a long way. I usually do two applications across the whole windshield to ensure complete coverage. Even with that, I've only had to buy 2 bottles in over 6 years! After applying (twice) just rub it off with a fresh soft cloth or paper towel. I find that spraying water or mild glass cleaner on the windshield before rubbing helps eliminate any streakage or leftover RAIN-X residue.
Since I knew that RAIN-X Windshield Treatment worked so well, it didn't take much to get me to try their windshield washer fluid when I discovered it in the store. Sitting right next to the bottles of regular blue fluid, these bottles filled with orange fluid are comparable in price. Often you can find them on sale at gas stations. RAIN-X Washer Fluid is used just like regular washer fluid, but it also contains RAIN-X Windshield Treatment in it so you a little bit added to your windshield each time you clean it. This helps protect the glass from bug stains, (you still get bug splats, but they are a bit easier to clean), snow, ice and extends the life of the Windshield Treatment you already applied. (I do suggest using the Washer Fluid in conjunction with the Windshield Treatment. The results are much better as opposed to using the Washer Fluid by itself.)
In my opinion, the cleaning power is about the same as the blue stuff most are used to, but if you have snowy and icy winters in your area, you'll want the RAIN-X brand. To me, it melts ice and snow on your windshield much faster than the blue stuff. It resists freezing much better too. In fact, I keep a small spray bottle filled with RAIN-X Washer Fluid to spray on my windows when they get frozen. Just spray along the "seam" (where the window goes down - I don't know the exact technical term) and all around the edge of the window. Let it soak in for a minute and then try to open your window. If it still sticks, repeat the process. It's much easier than trying to scrape out all the snow and ice, plus it's better for your car than trying to bang on it. Also use the spray bottle to spray the ice and snow on your windshield and wipers before turning the wipers on. This will help defrost the ice faster so that your wipers don't get torn up so fast.
Which brings me to the RAIN-X Wiper Blades. We have a fairly new car and the wipers that came with it absolutely sucked. They ripped within the first few snowy days we had. So I opted for RAIN-X brand wiper blades. So far (little over a year now) I'm very pleased with their durability.
