A Real Blunder

Tropic Thunder Offends Rather Than Entertains

EB
Many have protested the movie, calling it offensive because they portrayed mentally disabled people in a bad way, namely poking fun at them. In the movie Ben Stiller plays a washed out actor who had in his recent career played Jack, in a made up movie called, 'Simple Jack' which may have been a farce off the movie 'Jack' with Robin Williams and 'Forrest Gump' starring Tom Hanks. Ben Stiller blatantly portrays 'Jack' as a slow and dim-witted yokel and is accused by his co-star (Robert Downey Jr.'s character) as going "Full retard".
Those who have protested the movie use this example which is the current running theme in the movie and perhaps the only plot to the story about a group of spoiled actors who are dropped in the middle of the Vietnam jungle to re-enact a story about the Vietnam war.

Unfortunately, Robert Downey Jr.'s character is also offensive because he plays a white man who undergoes a bad surgical transformation into a black man and plays this part with equal racism as his character stereotypes his new black role with odd remarks about people of color.
Jack Black makes disgusting sexual references as he is tied to a tree. He is also a cocaine addict and there are continuous references throughout the movie about his addiction.
A child actor who plays the Vietnamese/Burmese/Laos boss (the movie doesn't specify where they are) is shown smoking a cigar and shooting off a bazooka at the actors.

The movie contains graphic violence, scenes of cannibalism, sexual content, racism and swearing.
It is yet unknown how many underage children have seen this movie because of substandard security in theaters. The rating for this movie should also be under review as it contains content not suitable for an 'R' rating but something closer to an 'NC-17' rating.

Sorry fans but this one missed the cut. Tropic Thunder has made headlines for poking fun at mentally disabled people but has also invoked the rage of many others, including myself, for its blatant show of violence, cannibalism, sexual content, racism and swearing.

If they wanted to create a comedy-farce about men trying to be like soldiers in Vietnam--they have failed. Tropic Thunder instead has set out to be the most offensive movie along with "Step-Brothers" (see other review).

Ben Stiller has done a few off color movies but this one is the worst and unfortunately, he took the credit for it. It's a shame that Jack Black also had to share in the shame. Robert Downey Jr. from "Iron Man" shows a terrible performance while trying to play a black man and it turns out to be instead a racist attempt at stereotypes. And of course, Tom Cruise (What was he thinking?!!!) should never have been in the movie at all, this will hurt his career in the long run.

All in all, Tropic Thunder is a definite miss, so don't waste your money!
