A Really Nice House; A Really Good Investment

Falling in Love with a Really Nice House and Couldn't Afford It

Since I went back to my parents' house, I realize that our neighbors' house is up for sale. They had it remodeled so from the outside, we could see how attractive the house really was.

Anyway, my mother and I went in to see it-I absolutely adored it. Since then I couldn't sleep. It is not palatial, just a small bungalow with a spacious lot that could become a garden. It can even accommodate a swimming pool.

This house was actually the first home of a distant relative. I used to play there when I was little with my cousin. It had three bedrooms, a toilet and bath, a car park, nice kitchen, den, and very wide lot. It was the sort of house that I wanted to build a home in, where I wanted to raise my child.

What is more, it is two houses away from my parents, and if we are not there, they can look after it. And since my parents like gardening, they can probably start the garden in the backyard. It is a lovely, lovely place.

But the property, they said, costs about 3 million pesos. When I computed the cost of the house for 25 years of mortgage, it would run to more than 13 million pesos including 14% annual interest. 1 million pesos is about $20,000.

The property is not expensive. It is actually very cheap considering the prices of everything nowadays. The problem is, it is way beyond our means. Sigh...if only. But my husband only earns about $200 from his call center job. I also earn from my freelance and online jobs. But well, it is only good for our expenses and other smaller purchases. Not a house.

But I am not forcing the issue. We know we can't afford it, even on monthly amortization. My husband and I decided to wait. We will be having our first child, and we are still saving up some money for childbirth, as our savings went to the hospital and my medication when I had ureteral stone last December. Maybe with the coming of the second child, we will be able to build a small home in my parents' property.

Or who knows? Maybe the Lord will grant us the desire of our hearts.

What about you? Do you already have your home? Or are you in your dream home?
