A Recipe for Gourmet Peppersteak for Two

Kerry Mulherin
If you're wanting to create that romantic dinner for two without demolishing your weekly budget on a $70 night out at a restaurant, a gourmet Peppersteak is a deliciously simple choice you can prepare yourself, just for that special occasion.

It is fact that men love steak, so this will tickle his taste buds and yours, too.

When choosing the cut of steak you are to cook, always select the one you prefer for taste or price. If you find your cut of meat to be a little more tough than you would like it to be, plan to cook it the next evening and use the following method to tenderize the meat first.

Lay your steaks on a tray, and sprinkle very lightly with baking soda and olive oil or vegetable oil. Rub this into the meat and place the steaks into a bowl covered with plastic wrap. Leave overnight or until the following afternoon, remove and rinse well. The soda will leave a salty taste if not rinsed thoroughly under cool water before cooking.

Ingredients:

2 Steaks

Cracked black pepper.

2 tbsp canned green peppercorns (can be found in most supermarkets)

Small package of sour light cream

2 tbsp yellow mustard(powder or spread)

Cold Beer!

Method:

Cook steak as usual to your liking, either in a pan or baked in the oven.

Remove your steaks from their pan, returning the pan to the heat. If you have used an oven bake method, place your pan on a stove top burner momentarily to complete this process.

Drain away any excess grease and add sour cream to the pan. Stir constantly over the heat, adding the green peppercorns, black pepper and mustard to the mixture.

This process will take around 3 - 4 minutes. Do not leave longer than this or the sour cream will begin to dissipate.

Once the sauce becomes a golden brown color, remove and spoon across your steaks.

*The green peppercorns may be omitted from the recipe if not to your liking or unavailable.

This meal is best served with honeyed carrots, sauteed onions and mushrooms.

A loaded baked potato can be served in place of any other side.

This mouthwatering steak dinner is best complimented with a huge mug of icey cold beer and a crispy lettuce based side salad.

Children's Menu:

Kids love this saucy steak dinner too. Simply use a mild mustard and no peppercorns. Your children will likely prefer a loaded baked potato, stuffed with tasty melted cheese running down the sides and a generous sprinkling of bacon bits on top.

Why not serve a classy meal like this without the huge price tag?
