A Review of the 2008 Mazda 6 Sports Sedan

Brenda Keener
As a former BMW owner, I am picky about cars. When I went car shopping two months ago, I hadn't really planned on looking at Mazdas. Maybe it was the catchy commercials, but I found myself making a call and heading to a Mazda dealership just to see what all the buzz was about.

Two months later, I couldn't be happier with my new Mazda 6! It is roomy enough to fit my entire family plus vacation luggage, yet sporty enough with its cool looking spoiler to pass as a sports car. The Bose sound system and internal speakers make my ride enjoyable, and heated seats are a great feature for these cold mornings.

WIth a V6 engine, it has enough punch to get me out of tight spots quickly, and its turning radius makes for easy U-turns and overall maneuverability. Prices run from $19 - $27K, making it much more affordable than other cars in its class.

The critics agree. Some of the press surrounding this cool ride (from the Mazda site) includes:

It's sportier than the other cars in its class, both in appearance and in its handling and driving dynamics. It's more agile and holds the road better than other mid-size sedans, such as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima."
- New Car Test Drive.com

"But for buyers looking for a sportier, more sophisticated ride, it's hard to do better than the MAZDA6, at least without blowing your budget."
- TheCarConnection.com

The V6 version gets 25 miles to the gallon on the highway and 17 miles to the gallon on city streets - this is not the best, but whenever you are shopping for a vehicle, power and the overall driving experience is a clear tradeoff with gas mileage. I find it a fair combination of both.

The interior is also more stylish and comfortable than the Mazda of the past - it looks rich and well-made, and the seats are comfortable enough for even long rides.

If you need more trunk room, the back seats fold down, allowing even skis and ski equipment to ride with ease. And Mazda provides a great new owners package that includes free towing, and a free first oil change.
