A Review of the 2009 Corvette ZR1

Suprisingly Good!

Chevrolet never failed to make a really good looking corvette. I like them all! but when it comes to performance, oh boy. Most of the time, you have to run for your life if you see a corvette taking on a corner. Not so with the ZR1, as it was named car of the year by Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear - the renowned hater of American cars. When Top Gear came to America for the second time to test out the three new muscle cars - Corvette ZR1, the new Challenger, and the Cadillac CTS-V, they all found something they loved, but Clarkson was making love to the ZR1 like he never done to another car!

We all know the ZR1 as the car powered by a huge 600+ horsepower 6.2-liter V8 that gives the Corvette a capability to do 200 miles per hour! We also know the ZR1 engine as the donor for the new Italian designed Project M by Bertone - possibly the hottest car to ever hit the streets yet. So, they did something right on the engine, since Europeans are taking great interest in it. But, the main thing why the ZR1 is so good is because it drives like a dart! I personally haven't driven one, but I'd die to. Just from watching other fortunate people who do get to drive all these cars, I can tell that the car is something magnificent.

Let's look at the looks - it's more sublime than the standard C6, or even the ZO6. It's a little bit longer, it's a little bit sleeker. It's just that little bit better than the rest of the Corvettes. But boy is it mad! You put your foot down, and I'll bet you anything you'll think you're in an Enzo. And when you take a corner, you'll think your an an Audi! What has Chevrolet done with the Corvette?

OK, I'll be honest, I'm not worried. The ZR1 may be a little bit unorthodox for an American muscle car, but it still is. It's extremely torque friendly! In fact, it produces a peak of just over 600 torques. How did they manage to make the Corvette so manageable? I mean you can powerslide the Corvette through a corner, and it'll act as if it's on the nurburgring.

Ah, maybe that's what I was missing. Corvette managed to put the ZR1 around the track faster than the Nissan GTR and the Porsche 911! Basically, the best of Japanese and European! I can sense that maybe, just maybe, Americans have got the idea that not everything in the world is a straight line!

I've been into cars for a long time now. It started as a little kid when I started drawing cars for fun. My cars, though, did not have guns and fins on them, well, most of them didn't, to say the least. I fo...  View profile
