Well, you've got a better styling, that's for sure. The old G35 look very good, and I was wondering for a long time, how good will the G37 look? Now, it's one thing to look at a photo, it's a whole other world when you're looking at in in 3 Dimensions; when you've got your eyes set on the real thing.
Like the 370Z, the body is a bit more sculpted, a bit more round. Unlike the 370Z, it's beautifully balanced. There are no cutaways in the headlights or taillights that would make it look like a plastic surgery gone wrong. And it still proudly sports the looks of the old one. If you put the two together side-by-side, and look at them, you'll know they're related. The old G35 didn't need a facelift, or a butt-job as well. Probably the only thing Infinity did was change the front bumper a bit, change the headlightsl, and change the taillights. But wait - the 3.7L engine that produces 330 horsepower. So with a bigger belly, it gained more horsepower; 24 more horsepower to be exact.
So, I'll conclude right away that it's better than the 370Z. It looks better, and the performance figures tell the same story. Also, it's more luxurious, and more comfortable. I've driven the old 350Z, and it felt like a sports car, more so a muscle car. Infinity is known for including a comfortable dose of comfort in their cars.
But how does it fare with competition? Well, right now it has the Japanese market basically to itself in the coupe division. So, the closest rivals are from Germany - the BMW 3-series. And I'll come off straight, if you've got a wallet the size of Texas, and you're not afraid to spend an extra few grand, you can go after the BMW. Their 3-series coupe looks fantastic, and doesn't differ much from the M3. It produces about the same horsepower, and has an infinitely more pedigree and engineering advantage. However, don't think that BMW is a clear winner. It might be a better engineered car, and have years and years of existence to learn upon, but the Infinity G37 is still very much up their nose. It might be a new kid on the market, but the G35 and the G37 were made to be good from the start.
You see, BMW 3-Series, at first, were a bit of an ugly duckling. Mercedes and Porsches looked much better. It was that way up until BMW reached 21st century. When they did, something happened to them, and they started building brilliant cars! Right now, a BMW looks better than just about any Mercedes, however, still struggles to gain anything on Porsche.
So, verdict time, does the G37 have my approval? Well, you see, while the 370Z is just one, there are two G37's. A good looking coupe, and a sedan! So, it's a brilliant car, automatically soiled by a sister with a bit extra weight. The prices start at about $34,000, and go on to about 44,000. So, about $4-10,000 over the price tag of a 370Z. Still worth it? I don't know if I'd pay 10 grand more, but I sure would pay 4 grand more to look more like a human.
