A Review Of: The Beast

Terror Runs Deep

Othert
Before this movie aired on the Scifi channel in 1996, for weeks it was just advertised with the Title and actors names being flashed in bold letters across the TV screen. Myself, I was expecting this movie to be about Big Foot or some other "land" creature with the title it had. Being someone who is a squid fanatic I automatically loved this movie when I found out that it was about a giant squid! This is the "Jaws" of squid movies; timeless, classic and amazing. Maybe it is a coincidence, but both were written by Peter Benchly! This movie is one of the best movies I have ever seen. The acting was amazing, the director knew what he was doing and even though it was not a huge special effects budget, for 1996 the squid effects are awesome.

Plot/Story Line

Originally airing in two parts, part one is mainly making character development between the key characters and the town of Grave's Point. During this ½ of the movie, the town is dying due to the fishing industry not being able to bring up huge catches of fish. Sooner then latter, after finding a hook larger then a fist, A biologist comes to the town to inform the people that a huge creature lies underneath there water front and to leave the creature alone for soon it will move on. After killing a few tourists, the town decides to take action against the creature and kill it using explosive charges and guns. The first half ends as the dead carcass of the giant squid floats the surface and is dragged along the boat into town. The second part of the movie takes off as the town discovered that the massive creature that was killed was only in fact a child and the mother is still out there and now seeking vengeance of her child's death
