The first Booster Juice opened in Canada in 1999 and now has 200 stores throughout North America. They aren't cheap but they must be doing something right if they are so popular. Booster Juice doesn't just make smoothies and fresh fruit juice; they also give every customer a free "booster." A booster can range from protein powder to calcium; it's basically a nutritional supplement.
I ordered the Very Berry which consisted of cranberry juice, raspberries, blueberries, strawberry sorbet and fresh yogurt. Booster Juice lists the complete nutritional content for each smoothie and juice they make. This is what was listed for my Very Berry:
Calories: 364.2
Carbs: 83.3 g
Fat: 1.9 g
Protein: 4.5 g
Fiber: 11.4 g
Sugars: 70.89 g
The result was lovely. The Very Berry smoothie was a dark purple color and even though I ordered the large (24 ounces) I drank it quite quickly. My smoothie was more fruity than creamy so I couldn't taste the yogurt at all. The only bad thing about my smoothie was that as soon as I was done, I was still hungry and thirsty. I guess I should have gotten the booster that suppresses your appetite.
My husband ordered the Strawberry Sunshine which is apparently the number one customer favorite. This consisted of sweet strawberries, guava and passion fruit juice, bananas, strawberry sorbet and fresh yogurt. My husband enjoyed his smoothie and was satiated longer than I was so I guess the bananas, guava and passion fruit juice must have filled him up. The nutritional content for a Strawberry Sunshine smoothie is as follows:
Calories: 399
Carbs: 97.5 g
Fat: 0.5 g
Protein: 4.2 g
Fiber: 12 g
Sugars: 86 g
The staff at Booster Juice let us move the outside table closer to the electrical outlet even though this meant customers had to step onto the street in order to enter Booster Juice if they came from the Starbucks direction. The staff even asked me how we enjoyed our smoothies when I went back inside to use the restroom. They have one male and one female bathroom and it was freezing in there. To have had air conditioning blowing on me for the first time in four days was strange yet refreshing. The bathroom was immaculate so they obviously take cleanliness seriously, which is good to know.
The only downside to Booster Juice is the price but we did get 24 ounce smoothies. We paid over $9 for two smoothies (including tax).
The Booster Juice we visited is located at: 5115 Buffalo Speedway, Suite 200, West University Place, TX 77005. Their phone number is: 713-665-5300. Hours are: Monday-Friday 7 AM - 9 PM; Saturday: 9 AM - 9 PM; and Sunday 9 AM - 8 PM. Booster Juice's web site is: www.boosterjuice.com.
