A Review of the Budget Friendly Canon PowerShot SD110IS Digital Camera

Performance and Price Meet with This Little Point and Shoot

JW Price
It seems recently that every holiday season has had digital cameras as one of their top selling items. With performance improving and prices dropping it's no wonder that more consumers are looking to move into the digital photography age. Along with those entering the market for the first time, other more established photographers are looking to upgrade. A perfect example of this seasons more popular offerings is the Canon PowerShot SD110IS digital camera. Noted by Amazon as one of their top selling models I figured it was worth getting my hands on and giving it a review.

Product Overview:

The Canon PowerShot SD110IS digital camera has wonderful styling and color options, these immediately set it apart from some of the other models in this price range. It is light but has a sturdy feel despite being constructed from plastic. I am embarrassed to say that I have dropped mine a time or two but happy to report that it has held up wonderfully. The 2.5 inch screen takes up a majority of the rear of the camera however they did manage to squeeze in a view finder which isn't always present at the budget level. I found that the screen was easy to view in well lit situations but still used the viewfinder for more accurate framing.

There aren't a tremendous amount of functions available on this camera. All of the options can be accessed either by the menu buttons navigatable on the rear of the camera. The interface is quite small so those with large fingers and hands beware. The buttons are placed quite close together on a circular dial and I frequently end up pressing the wrong option. The zoom is standard for a point and shoot at 3x optical. Other common features include a red eye reduction, and image stabilizer.

The image quality on this 8 megapixel is good for the money. I was slightly disappointed in the low light shooting as the majority of my pictures are taken in the evenings. There is some noise but the pictures pass as adequate. The flash is affective at removing a lot of the noise but you sacrifice background interests.

Product Value:

This Canon PowerShot SD110IS digital camera can be found on sale for as little as $150 online and in the major stores. It is a great bargain for those just looking for a little point and shoot to keep in your pocketbook or jacket pocket for those impromptu to shooting sessions. Most will find the features adequate and will find the picture quality acceptable. At $150 this camera is a bargain.
