A Review of Campbell's Spaghettios

JRS
My Friday was turning out to be another Monday. I woke up anxious in the morning at the thought of all I had to do that day. As the day wore on, things just got worse with deadlines on top of deadlines. Then there was an emergency job that came in and had to be completed by the end of the day! To avoid having to work past my time and be late for my part-time job, I decided to skip lunch at eat at my desk while continuing to work.

I checked through the stash of staples I keep at my desk, wishing I had some sort of comfort food to brighten my day. Soup, soup, dried noodles, oatmeal, canned fruit. Nothing looked too satisfying. Then, way in the back, an unexpected can of Campbells Spaghettios! I must have brought this in a while ago as one of the things my daughter decided she no longer liked.

Awwh, but I shouldn't. The stress lately has had my stomach irritable and unstable. Again, I looked over my stash of unappetizing canned soups. Then I looked at the clock. I had about 4 hours to go before the end of my day. Well, why not give myself this little treat to make up for the missed lunch break?

I checked the calorie count as I poured the can's content in a microwave-safe bowl.
Not too too bad! 170 calories per 1 cup serving.

Ahhh! Memories and feelings of childhood ensued as I savored the first bite of the Campbells Spaghettios Those little pasta circles in tomato and cheese sauce tickled my tongue as I continued looking at the can. What's this! This is Campbells Spaghettios Plus Calcium! It also has as much vitamin D as in a glass of milk. And, it provides 10% vitamin A, 10% vitamin C, 30% calcium, 10% iron, 10% thiamin, 10% riboflavin, 15% niacin, and 20% folic acid! These were things I could feel good about!

But wait a minute! Didn't Spaghettios used to be made by Franco-American? Weren't they, 'the neat round spaghetti you can eat with a spoon. Uh Oh, Spaghettios?

A Brand Change for Spaghettios
According to USA Today, in 2004, Spaghettios began being sold under the name of Campbell Soup, which actually owns the Franco-American line. The product wasn't changed, only the brand.

This was done to boost sales, and also because in terms of quality and nutrition the Campbell's name is a more recognized.

Well, whatever the reason, I was definitely glad to come across that old stand by that many of us grew up on. I'm glad to say that I will be stocking more in my office desk stash.
