Developed by Cell City, Check Flights is a light application for Symbian devices. It runs on the background and provides users information on the status of flights, whenever needed.
Main Review
Check Flights is a light application in the form of a widget, designed to do only one thing - provide flight information on the go.
The application's design is optimized for devices with a portrait type screen, such as the Nokia N86 or the N97 (in closed form). Switching to landscape mode while running the widget will mess things up a bit; the widget is designed with a fixed width. This does not, however, affect formatting. Users will simply be a tad bit inconvenienced with too much scrolling.
When using the application, users are asked to provide the following information: the date of travel (provided through a drop down list*), the airline, and the number of the flight.
*The options for the date of travel are as follows: yesterday, today, tomorrow, and the next day. There are no other options outside the provided range.
Upon providing the required information, tap the search button. The screen will display all the details for that specific flight. A button that allows users to add the flight details to the Calendar application is located at the lower right hand area of the screen. Note that this only works for supported devices.
The Check Flight application is a light piece of software providing Symbian device users with a complete package for checking flight information. A more in depth solution, however, is offered by WorldMate Professional.
The application does not use up too much memory, and the integration with the Calendar is a great feature as well.
Pros Light on memory
Provides good results
Cons Does not provide comprehensive information
Requires the flight number to be able to look up flight info; may have been nice to be able to simply provide schedules and routes to check for available information.
Pricing
The application is available for free at Ovi Store.
Conclusion
The Check Flight application is a simple and straight forward application that does one job and does it rather well. Users who want immediate yet simple flight details will enjoy this application. The application gets a rating of 65 out of 100.
