A Review of The Cupcakerie in Cranston, Rhode Island - Snacks for You and Your Pet

This afternoon I read about a small store on Broad Street in Cranston where you could get a treat for yourself and your dog in a space shared by The Cupcakerie (just what the name implies) and Jacks Snacks (a gourmet dog bakery). Both varieties of treats are made from human healthy ingredients. You could eat a dog cookie if you wanted but with a case of perfectly snack sized goodies meant just for you there's no need to. What most intrigued me was the name of one of the cupcakes; lavender bean. The description was of a light lavender cake with a vanilla bean frosting. I've had rose flavored candy and jasmine rice so lavender cake wasn't such a stretch.

I gave my driver, also known as my husband, the address and we were on our way. We entered the tiny store and were at once in front of a case with the most perfectly sized and frosted cupcakes I have seen in a very long time. As cupcakes are all the rage right now there seems to be a tendency to go oversized or over frosted which defeats the purpose of the cupcake as a perfect sized handheld snack. I prefer quality to quantity and The Cupcakerie didn't disappoint.

The owner/baker greeted us and aided us in making the proper selection as we were faced with 13 flavors, all of which sounded exceedingly pleasing. Amidst the full size snack cakes were boxes of miniature versions, samplers (9 cupcakes for $7.50). Each sampler contained a unique mix of products but by buying two we got all of the 13 available flavors. Each mini is a perfect three bites of moist spongy cake highlighted by a complimentary flavor of perfectly sweetened frosting. As of this writing I have enjoyed the Lemon Drop, Lavender Bean, Grasshopper, and Rabbit's Delight while my son claims the Cookies 'N' Cream was the best cupcake he ever ate.

With full size cupcakes at $2.75 each or $30 per dozen ($2.50 each) they are comparable to the price of a small cake from an upscale bakery but with four more servings and the ability to choose multiple flavorings suited to your guests specific tastes. If you must have a traditional cake they can do that for you as well. Inspired by ingredients from local farms you can count on amazing seasonal flavors. Vegan and gluten free offerings are also available.

Since the writing of this I have to say the Velvet Elvis was delicious as was the traditional vanilla and chocolate diva but the one that did it for me was the Cinco De Maio which is chocolat chilli cake with butter cream frosting sprinkled with Mexican cinnamon. OH YEAH BABE! BAM!
