A Review: Duncan Hines Family Recipe Chocolate Chip Cookies

Annette Robbins
Duncan Hines Family Recipe Chocolate Chip Cookies Mix is an excellent substitute for making homemade cookies. I was pleasantly surprised at the ease in preparation and the taste of the final baked product. I had purchased a box with the intention of having my two grandchildren ages five and three make cookies on their next visit to grandmom's and grandpoppy's house. Well, the project was fun and they were excited and made the cookies that they proudly served with the exclamation, "We made it ourselves!"

Preparation:
The mix is very easy to prepare and is almost foolproof. You cannot make a mistake if you read the easily understood instructions. You probably already have on hand the butter and one large egg to make the cookies. You stir one tablespoon of margarine and one large egg into the prepared cookie mix. Everything else is included in the boxed cookie mix. After mixing thoroughly you drop the mix approximately 3 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

You then bake the cookies for approximately 10-11 minutes in a preheated oven of 375 degrees. Be mindful that oven temperatures vary so keep an eye on the baking to avoid burning the cookies. When the cookies are a golden brown they are ready to be removed from the oven and cooled. After cooling, carefully remove the cookies to a tray.

Nutrition Information
According the nutrition panel on the side of the box, the cookie mix contains 140 calories and 180 calories when baked. The fat content of the unbaked mix is 45g and baked it is 80 g. The cholesterol content of the baked cookie is 35 mg while the sodium content is115g and the sugars amount to15g. For those who are concerned about allergies, the Duncan Hines Company states in bold letters on the nutrition panel that the cookie mix contains wheat and soy and tree nuts are also processed on the same equipment. The ingredients include enriched bleached wheat flour, niacin, semi sweet chocolate chips, sugar, partially hydrogenated soybean oil and 2% or less of molasses, dextrose, salt , leavening and artificial flavor.

Serving Suggestions
Of course, it can be served as a universal favorite with milk or hot chocolate. You can also place these cookies on a party tray lined with a pretty lace doily with other sweet treats to serve at a party or family gathering. The box states the servings per container is 16 cookies--a decent yield for the $1.00 price paid for the 9 oz box of cookie mix.

Duncan Hines guarantees your satisfaction of this product and gives you a toll free number if you have comments or questions. The company has other Duncan Hines mixes for cupcakes and brownies. To summarize, I found this product easy to prepare and delicious. I recommend this product for a quick solution to making a sweet treat that requires minimal time and effort without sacrificing taste and quality.
