A Review of the Film "Mamma Mia"

The outstanding scenery and sparkling blue waters of the Greek Islands are a perfect backdrop to shoot a film. Place a group of extremely talented actors and actresses in that film and you have an instant hit. "Mamma Mia" is a captivating and enjoyable film for young and old alike. Unfortunately, I did not see the stage play. However, on a friend's suggestion I saw the film during a recent vacation.

Meryl Streep gave another outstanding performance, this time as "Donna." Everyone in the cast was superb, each in their own role. I was pleased to learn Meryl could sing and dance. It should not have surprised me, because I now realize just how great an actress she truly is. Meryl Streep has been nominated for fourteen Oscars and received two Academy Awards. The two awards were for "Kramer vs. Kramer" and "Sophie's Choice."

Pierce Brosnan has acted in numerous television shows and movies; he portrayed the popular character "James Bond" in four movies. His rugged good looks and captivating Irish accent make him the perfect choice to play "Sam" in "Mamma Mia."

Stellan Skarsgard, Colin Firth, Julie Walters and Christine Baranski give wonderful portrayals of their characters, along with Amanda Seyfried as "Sophie" and Dominic Cooper as "Sky." Amanda Seyfriend is an excellent choice to play Meryl Streep's daughter and her acting abilities are terrific.

It is readily apparent the cast enjoyed filming part of this movie in the Greek Islands. The singing and dancing along the shores of the beach were terrific as the crystal-clear blue waters sparkled around them. If you want to see a fun movie, see "Mamma Mia."
