A Review of Finacea for the Treatment of Rosacea

My Personal Experience with This Product

Vicki Messer
About 4 years ago, I was diagnosed by a dermatologist has having rosacea. I was experiencing redness and flushing of my face along with small red pustules on my nose and upper cheeks along with broken blood vessels on my chin.

Is it Rosacea or Skin Cancer?
At that time, I also was diagnosed with skin cancer on my nose, so the treatment for rosacea took a temporary backseat to the cancer treatments. For me, it was then and still continues to be, difficult for me to tell the difference between a rosacea bump and another red bump that indicates a return of the squamous cell carcinoma. They look surprisingly alike, so it it important to see a dermatologist in order to get a proper diagnosis. The only difference is that the rosacea bumps do go away rather quickly, while the skin cancer bump will remain.

Once the skin cancer was resolved, my dermatologist turned to treatment for the rosacea. I was given 2 tubes of rosacea skin creams to try out and then the doctor would prescribe whichever treatment worked best for me. The winner of the contest was Finacea.

The Daily Regimen that Works for Me
My rosacea flares come and go and sometimes I don't use anything except moisturizer with sunscreen and a brush or two of mineral make-up, also with sunscreen protection. At those times when rosacea flares, I've found the best way for me treat the problem is to cleanse my skin only at bedtime and apply a think coat of Finacea. The product dries quickly and won't rub off on your pillowcase. The next morning, I simply apply my moisturizer and make-up without cleansing my face again. It seems that the fewer times I touch my skin or cleanse it, the fewer flares of rosacea I have. I repeat the same procedure of cleansing at bedtime and applying a layer of Finacea once again. This regimen seems to keep the flare-ups at bay and will quickly dry up any red pustules that appear.

Rosacea Triggers
Anyone who has rosacea knows how difficult it can be to avoid all the many triggers. For me, getting too hot when exercising or doing housework or yard work is a a key trigger. Also getting in the sun or being out in the wind, especially on cold days is a guarantee of a rosacea flare. Stress also plays a role for me in rosacea flare-ups. So, you can see how difficult it can be to control rosacea.

Finacea does not cure the disease, but it does make it much more manageable. Finding the regimen that works best is usually trial and error since we all respond to triggers and treatments in different ways.

All in all, I consider Finacea to be my treatment of choice and I have been very pleased and satisfied with its ability to help me better control the outbreaks of rosacea.
