I am a refried beans fan. When I came across a can of Gebhardt Refried Beans in the canned veggies section of my local Dollar tree store recently, I was delighted. This dish looked good! I decided to purchase these, try them out and write a product review all about my personal experience with them. Here is what I discovered!
I bought one can of Gebhardt Refried Beans for only one dollar. I loved that very food budget friendly price. Each can has three servings in it. Not a bad deal, in my opinion. This can is hard to miss. It is bright yellow and orange. It also has a cute Mexican hat on it. Very clever. This brand has been around since 1896, I discovered. Wow! Very interesting. I was in the mood for tacos and looking for a refried beans side dish to go along with. I usually buy another popular brand of refried beans, but since this dish was only one dollar, I just had to try it.
These are Mexican style refried beans. The ingredients are cooked beans, water, lard and salt. Lard? Yep. I grew up on a farm and my grandmother actually made her own lard in a black kettle over an open fire. We are talking many years ago. Many folks used to cook with lard, especially in the south. This dish has no cholesterol in it, by the way. Fantastic. It is also fairly low in fat. I could not wait to try these beans.
This product is perfect for microwave cooking and that is how I chose to prepare it. You can also heat it up on the stove top, in a sauce pan, if you wish. I opened the can, poured the contents into a microwave safe bowl, covered, heated for a few minutes on high, uncovered, stirred well and served. This dish looked great and smelled good. When I tasted these refried beans, I loved them. They are tasty. They rival name brands and they are so affordable. I like to add shredded cheddar cheese to these, melt and serve. This product is a winner. I will be buying it again. I rate Gebhardt Refried Beans four stars out of five stars. They go well with tacos, enchiladas, chili and many of my favorite Mexican style dishes.
One serving has 90 calories. 20 of those calories come from fat. One serving has only 2 grams of total fat, 0.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 0 mg's of cholesterol, 490 mg's of sodium, 16 grams of total carbs, 4 grams of total carbs, 0 grams of sugars and 6 grams of protein. This dish has a nice amount of iron in it. This canned foods product is distributed by ConAgra foods.
I loved trying Gebhardt Refried Beans and writing this product review about them. This side dish saves me money and time. It is also high in quality. An easy Mexican style side dish that tastes great! I am very glad that I tried this one. It is a keeper!

Very good article! But something I have always wondered about, why don't they fry them right in the first place?
