A Review of General Mills Chocolate Chex Cereal

Many people are looking for delicious, yet healthy alternatives to the many sweet and sugary cereal that are on the market today. With so many of the healthy alternatives out there, if you take away some of the sugar, you often take away some of the good taste. Many of the cereals on the market that are healthy also have a plain taste to them. Realizing that adult's too like that sweet taste in a cereal while at the same time enjoying the healthy benefits of whole grains, cereal makers are trying to make a combination of both in cereals.

I recently tried one of General Mills newest cereals, Chocolate Chex. I have always been a fan of chocolate cereals, and this is one more chocolate cereal I can add to my favorites list. Chocolate Chex has the perfect amount of chocolate flavor to it. About half of the cereal squares are plain flavored and the other half are chocolate flavored. The chocolate flavoring on it has a bit of a sugary/gritty texture to it. It stays on the cereal though, not coming off too much and floating around on the surface of the milk. Being that it is Chex cereal, Chocolate Chex is a good source of whole grain. It also is a good source of Calcium and Vitamin D, as stated on the cereal box. Compared to other chocolate cereals such as Cocoa Krispies and Cocoa Puffs, it has less grams of sugar. It has 6 grams with other chocolate cereals have 12 grams on up. Since Chocolate Chex has such a great chocolate flavor, I think kids would be more than happy to eat it. It has less sugar than other chocolate kid's cereals, so it's a great alternative.

Even though Chocolate Chex may not have the least amount of sugar grams on the cereal market today, I do think it is a healthy substitute for those individuals looking for a healthier choice in sweet cereals while trying to get more whole grains into their diet as well. As with the other Chex cereals, Chocolate Chex is low in fat and cholesterol free. It contains 2.5 Grams of fat per serving, and has many vitamins and minerals in it. Chocolate Chex can also add a diverse flavor to some of the recipes you already use Chex cereal for such as chex mix, puppy chow, trail mix, and party mixes.
