Featuring an analog tuner that displays frequencies on a digital readout, the FM tuning on the Grundig S350 Portable Radio presents an automatic frequency control setting that automatically tunes into the clearest stations. If you prefer to fine tune, this setting can be turned off.
You can switch the AM tuning on the Grundig S350 Portable Radio between narrow and broad sensitivities to eliminate some of the interference. The low pass filter control and the RF gain dial can assist in tuning as well, both in the AM and shortwave modes. The Grundig S350 Portable Radio can recognize external antennas that can supplement the reception being received from the built in antenna. An antenna dock is also available for improved reception in the FM mode.
There is only one speaker on the Grundig S350 Portable Radio, however, there is a headphone output for FM listening and the radio can be connected to an amp or home stereo system via the RCA jacks. The Grundig S350 Portable Radio can be run on AC power or batteries, requiring four D-sized batteries to operate. In addition, there is a separate, smaller section that fits four AA cells for short-term power in case you don't have D batteries available. The Grundig S350 Portable Radio offers alarm, snooze, and sleep functions just as any other basic clock-radio. It is easy to view the LCD display screen at night thanks to the back light feature.
Of course, there are a couple of downfalls to the Grundig S350 Portable Radio. First, the tuning knobs and buttons on the radio are very flimsy, making it hard to tune into at certain times. Also, the Grundig S350 Portable Radio is quite heavy, weighing about six pounds, so it is fine if you are planning to leave it stationary the majority of the time but you may not want something quite as heavy if you are intending to take it on the move.
All in all, the Grundig S350 Portable Radio provides clear AM, FM and shortwave broadcasts and boasts good sound quality. With the exception of the heavy weight and poorly constructed knobs, the Grundig S350 Portable Radio will exceed your expectations when it comes to purchasing a portable radio.
