I just downloaded the demo of Halo Wars. The game isn't due out for another three weeks. That's a shame because this game rocks. The download took about 10-15 minutes to complete. The wait was well worth it; once the download was complete I immediately opened up a skirmish match.

I'm not a big believer in directions so I didn't bother with the tutorial. If you are familiar with Command and Conquer at all then you will understand Halo Wars. There are several maps available and the options to be multiple commanders, however the demo allows for one map and one option of play. You are allowed to be the human military army and you face off against the Covenant on the Chasms map. There are options to allow more players and to allow more AI opponents but once again this is only a demo.

The game is straightforward and you start out with a massive base. The basic object is to build your base up as quickly as possible and to research new technology to allow you an advantage. My suggestion to you is to immediately build two supply depots, as this is where you get your "money" to buy other buildings and technologies. The play is smooth and fun. The mini Spartans and mini Scorpions give a well-needed shot in the arm for any Halo addict.

After figuring out all the basic functions I opened up the campaign mode. Here you get to play two missions that give a good introduction as to what the full game should have. The play is smooth and I didn't get any glitches or anything that was annoying.

There is an option to order the Limited Edition version and with that you get two exclusive in game vehicles, which I admit will be cool. I am preordering this bad boy today and can't wait till March 3rd. If you like your Halo with a little strategy rather than just running around shooting things then this game is a must. The demo is an excellent idea to see whether or not you'll like this game. The overall size of the demo is 1.4 GB so make sure you got room on your hard drive.

I recommend Halo Wars and I haven't been this excited to play a game since Halo 3 fell into my hands during the midnight witching hour at Wal-Mart with all the other wackos who waited over a year for it. If I had 3 or 4 thumbs I would give this demo more than two thumbs. Grab you Xbox and download Halo Wars now!!
