A Review of Homestarrunner.com

If you're not familiar with Homestar Runner, then get ready for one of the best sites on the web. Homestarrunner.com features movies made from flash that are usually parodies of video games and "old school" entertainment. Unlike much of the rest of the internet, the entire site is clean and family-friendly. This is a site that I would recommend for everyone; however, some jokes may not be understood by younger viewers, but they're often accompanied by hilarious things anyway.

Navigating the site is self-explanatory, but if you want to get a taste of what's coming up, watch the Intro. Besides, the Intro is one of the funniest movies on the site! The main menu features many options; as a newbie, you'll want to check out the Characters.

Not only are the movies for each characters funny, it shows each of their personality and what to expect if you see them later (which you will). Once you've finished watching the characters, you'll probably want to check out the Toons.

This is the main part of the site (oddly enough, it is not the most popular). It features all of the movies on the site organized by a remote. The three main options are Toons, Shorts, and Holiday. Toons and Holidays are generally much longer than the Shorts; the Toons feature everyday events in the Homestar world while Holiday features the other days, the "holidays". Shorts basically covers anything that doesn't fit in these things; for example, there's "An Important Rap Song" that doesn't feature any of the main characters (except The Cheat clones) and obviously has nothing to do with the Homestar world, except maybe as a commercial.

These are some Toons I would highly recommend watching:
"Strongest Man in the World Contest" - The original story that the site is based on.
"Where's the Cheat" - An adventure worthy of any tale.
"Cool Things" - How the band was formed.
Of course, all of the Toons are great fun and the Holiday Toons may even give you an idea for your holiday!

The most popular part of the site is Strongbad emails. This is where fans can email Strongbad and ask him certain things like (from the newest email): "Is the Paper really quitting? Could you tell me the best moment that you had with the paper?" The paper is Strongbad's obviously outdated printer type-thing. From that, Strongbad will answer the question and usually give a very detailing story and event, often showing Homestar in trouble.

The emails provide a great constant update for the site and exploration of the homestar universe. You'll even learn the origins of Trogdor the Burninator, one of the most influential characters made on the site. If you're going to watch all of the emails, it could take awhile as there are well over 100 emails (nearing 200 now).

Another popular part of the site is "Teen Girls Squad", a parody of high school girls and the "problems" they face, voiced by the so-talented Strongbad. This is perhaps also the most violent section of the site as it features body parts eaten and such. Don't worry! The entire flash is like pencil on paper stick figure drawings with absolutely nothing gross; if anything, all the "deaths" are taken in a humorous way.

If you have nothing to do and simply want to use some time, go here. It wont' be a waste of time and you certainly won't be disappointed. It is, by far, one of the best and cleanest sites on the internet, a rare feat for just any site.

Love math which probably lead to my interest in programming; later started the violin which lead to music which is starting to overpower the programming side. College now. Yay.  View profile

Very good review. It's been a while since I visited that site.
