A Review of the Hotel Suisse in Rome, Italy

Rose Alexis
If you are planning a trip to Rome and are looking for a hotel with a decent price, excellent location, and good security, the Hotel Suisse is the way to go. The hotel is located on the third floor of the building it is located within, and you must carry your luggage up one flight of steps to reach the lift. The steps are very large, and stable, so there is plenty of room to maneuver and it is not that difficult to do if you are in good health. The staff upon check-in and throughout your stay are very helpful and not at all intrusive. Staff is available until 2:00 a.m., and if you will be out longer than that time, will accommodate you by allowing re-entry into the hotel, if you notify them ahead of time. You must be buzzed into the hotel to gain entry, you do not get a key or card for self-entry. The hotel staff all spoke perfect English.

The rooms are clean and spacious by European standards, and have a wonderful wooden floor. My husband and I stayed in a room with a king-sized bed. The bed was firm and comfortable. The bathroom was on the small side, which is to be expected, and had a standing shower only. The water pressure was very good and well heated.

Breakfast was offered via in-room delivery on a daily basis, at no charge, and consisted of a simple but satisfying drink, assortment of fresh and delicious bread, and meat. Extra items could be delivered for a nominal charge. The trays were picked up in a timely fashion, or could be left outside of the door.

The location was perfect for exploration. Situated on the very top of the Spanish Steps, the walk to and from was a wonderful adventure in itself with a wide array of street vendors and artists set up daily. Shopping at high level boutiques, such as the ever-beloved Gucci and many others, was just at the bottom of the Spanish Steps, one minute away from the hotel. Other locations frequently visited in Rome were easily accessible by foot, such as the Trevi Fountain, The Colosseum, The Roman Forum, The Pantheon, and St. Peter's, among many others. The metro, which is easy to navigate, was located very close to the hotel as well. There are also many choices for good dining and drinking within walking distance.

The hotel is inside of a building on a narrow street, so noise from the outside was non-existent. The view was not so great, which was not an issue for us, but is important to know if you appreciate and desire one during travel. We are planning a trip to Rome again shortly, and are considering no other hotel destination than the Hotel Suisse. I highly recommend it to any who will be staying in this beautiful city.
