I have been playing guitar for about 14 years now, and I've owned a slew of them. Anything from cheap pawn shop guitars, to custom build guitars made just for me. But alas, the time for a new axe was near. I wanted something sleek, sexy, and have the ability to shred with the best of them, so I decided to stop by a local music vendor, to see what the latest offerings ibanez had. That my friends, is where this love story begins.

The Ibanez S2170SE is sexy to say the least. My model came in a oh-so cool charcoal gray. The rosewood neck accents the body just enough to scream your name while you press its fretboard. As we all know, looks don't make the guitar, but it is still a great feature. Let's see what we got technically.

Ibanez's custom Wizard II Prestige's neck system is amazing. It feels great to play both high and low on the fret board. The factory set up is brilliant, but after some small tweaking, it's nearly a perfect piece of art. The slightest hammer-ons just pick up perfectly. I have never played a guitar with a neck that played this well. Seriously.

The body is made of the standard mahogany wood. Nothing really new or inventive there, but theres not much else choice to be honest. In the body, Ibanez uses DiMarzio IBZ's pickups which are amazing. Alot of times you will buy a great guitar, with terrible pickups. The companies expect you to put more money into the guitar and purchase after market pickups. Not Ibanez. These pick ups are amazing for all playing types. Amazingly sensitive, but never over sensitive.

Ibanez has also improved the final coat on there paint finishes. With no pick guard, you can imagine that when playing hard, your pick will be scratching the finish surface. So, ibanez put a super thick 5.2mm clear finish on the guitar body. Basically, it allows you to buff any scratches your guitar may encounter and you really will not have to worry about over-buffing. Brilliant.

Like I said, this guitar has made me fall in love with playing music all over again. Now, while the price is kinda steep, ($1,299.95) , it is well worth double that. If you are tired of playing guitars, and feeling like the guitar itself is holding you back, then do not delay. Run, (yes, run, do not walk, or better yet, drive) to your local ibanez dealer and play this guitar. You will see what I mean.
