A Review of Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World

Watching the Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World (1997) is like watching a whole new movie. Especially for viewers who have seen the first Jurassic Park movie, watching the sequel is an exciting proposition. The owner bred the dinosaurs as 'lycene' deficient where they are unable to breed & then just die off. Nevertheless, the dinosaurs have somehow managed to flourish on the Site B: Isla Sorna, the original breeding place of dinosaurs before they were sent to the Jurassic Park Island in the first movie. Not making the same mistakes again, the mathematician, Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) tells the wealthy billionaire, John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) that he is making new mistakes instead of repeating the same mistake he did in the first Jurassic Park movie. Jeff Goldblum is a naturally hilarious character. It appears that Sam Neill is not in the Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World movie.

Dr. Ian Malcolm is sent with a research team which he refers to as a rescue team as he expects trouble just like in his first encounter with dinosaurs. He is going to the Lost World only because his girlfriend; Dr. Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore) is, surprisingly to him, already on the Site B: Isla Sorna island. It is such a chivalrous act indeed from Dr. Ian's character. The good old trademark shockwave seen on the water signals the coming of the T-Rex in the Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World movie. Many of the T-Rex scenes were not very interesting as only the head prop was used for close ups. I thought it would be very disappointing to have a blockbuster movie with little CGI (computer generated imagery) effects. However, it is only for the early part of the movie. Towards the end, viewers are served with plenty of full body T-Rex scenes. Thank you, Steven Spielberg!

The surviving team ends up in an abandoned facility on the island. The bad news is that the Velociraptors are on their trail in the Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World movie. The Velociraptors prove to be more destructive than the T-Rex to the team as only less than half of them survive the Velociraptor attack. Dr. Sarah Harding almost feeds Dr. Ian Malcolm's daughter to a Velociraptor in one of the chase scenes. What a close call! The ship certainly made a grand entrance with its crew dead, & cargo hold loose. The T-rex escapes from the San Diego dock. Havoc ensues in San Diego city as the T-Rex goes searching for food. It is strange how the police & armed forces are slow to react to a gigantic dinosaur roaming freely in San Diego. It could not have been an isolated incident because many people saw it (some were eaten by it) when it ploughed its way through a San Diego town.

The baby T-rex is returned to the mother & the rich bugger ends up as the baby T-Rex first kill. His greed finally got the best out of him. Had he had not gone looking for the baby T-Rex on his own, he would not have ended up as its meal. All ends well in Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World movie as the large T-Rex with its infant sent back again to the dinosaur island. So the Dr. Ian Malcolm's reputation is corrected & the public is made known about the Dinosaurs existence on Site B: Isla Sorna. Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World is one of the best films in the 1990s!
