A Review of Ken Blanchard's Book - "The One Minute Manager"
Reviewing "The One Minute Manager" by Ken Blanchard
Once, during my career in Information Technology, I took a supervisory position and in an effort to do my very best at the job I decided to search online for an inspirational article or book that would help me motivate myself and my
team. I found The One Minute Manager and after reading the previews, ordered a copy for each my employees. I did not realize at the time that this little book was world famous. Today it has sold more than 13 million copies.
I have to admit the book reads more like a children's story at times but the overall theme is powerful.
The author suggests that you spend time with your employee first thing in the morning and layout what needs to be done that day on one piece of paper, one page. It is a very simplified
approach and keeps people from being overwhelmed and feeling micromanaged.
I have found this method to be useful even when managing my own time. When faced with a task or project, I try to summarize everything and write it down on one page and use that as a
guide throughout the day.
Currently I am back in school, online, studying for my bachelors degree in Information Technology. I notice that our project rubrics are seldom more than a few pages. I am often able to
printout the rubrics and use them in the same manner as the book describes.
Even though the book is short and very simply written, I would recommend it as a must read.
