A Review of Kraft vs. Kroger Ranch Dressing

Johanna Swith
It is not often that I indulge in the more expensive national brand products. I consider myself to be a bargain shopper and I am almost always pleased with the quality and results of store brand products when compared to the national brand version. In this review I will focus on two brands of ranch dressing in an effort to help other consumers make an informed buying decision when shopping for ranch salad dressing.

I normally purchase the Kroger brand of creamy ranch dressing. The price varies from week to week, normally I pay either $1.25 or $1.50 per 16 fluid ounce bottle of this store brand salad dressing. I enjoy the creamy flavor and the generous sized bottle in addition to the great price. In my opinion, I think this is a great product with a great flavor. I know I should choose a low fat or fat free variety because this is a fattening food product, but I do not enjoy the way fat free dressings taste really sweet. I know this is how the manufacturers make up for the flavor that is lost when the fat is removed. Each serving of Kroger Creamy Ranch dressing contains 2 tablespoons of dressing, 130 calories and 14 grams of fat. I have never had an issue with the flavor or quality of this product and I will purchase it many more times and I would also recommend it to other ranch dressing lovers who are in search of a lower cost product that does not sacrifice a great flavor for the savings.

The last time I needed to pick up Ranch dressing, Kroger's was out of stock of their brand because it was on sale at $1 per bottle. I looked over the other flavors and decided to purchase the national brand of Ranch Dressing: Kraft Buttermilk ranch dressing and dip. I paid $1.65 for a 16 fluid ounce bottle of Kraft Buttermilk Ranch. I was very impressed with the rich and creamy flavor. I thought this dressing was fantastic and one of the rare occasions that I would actually purchase the national brand over a store brand. You just cannot beat the great flavor! I did not like that this dressing is higher in fat and calories. Each 2 tablespoon serving contains 150 calories and 16 grams of fat, which is a lot of fat for such a small serving, but I guess we cannot be good all the time right? I would recommend this product to anyone who likes Ranch dressing.

In my opinion each of these products are fantastic and worth purchasing regardless of your budget issues.
