A Review of Larrys Bacon & Cheddar Cheese Mashed Potatoes

Creative and Affordable

Bridgitte Williams

I am a big baked potato fan, so when I came across a box of Larry's Bacon & Cheddar Cheese Mashed Potatoes in the frozen side dishes section of my local Dollar Tree, I was thrilled. These looked so good! I decided to buy them, try them out and write a food product review all about the experience. Here is what I discovered!

I bought one box of Larry's Bacon & Cheddar Cheese Mashed Potatoes for only one dollar. What a great price! There are two individual servings in each box. These are in cute potato shaped oblong trays. They have all natural potatoes, cheddar cheese, real hickory smoked bacon bits, buttermilk, onion powder and other ingredients in them. These have a nice amount of calcium in them, also. I could not wait to taste them!

This side dish is perfect for microwave cooking and that is how I chose to prepare them. You can also bake them in a conventional oven, if you wish, but that takes thirty-five minutes. I removed the film wrap and placed the tray in my microwave. I heated it on high for four minutes. I removed it from the microwave and let it stand for two minutes before serving. This dish looks very attractive. The melted cheese is present on top and the tray gives a gourmet look to this dish. When I tasted this cheddar and cheese mashed potato dish, I liked it. It is cheesy and the real bacon pieces are nice and flavorful. My only problem with this product is the taste of the potatoes. They almost taste artificial and that puzzled me because there are real potatoes in this dish. Maybe it is the freezing part that gave them that taste. I am not sure. They are decent, but I was a bit disappointed. I think sour cream would have helped these taste better.

I rate Larry's Bacon & Cheddar Cheese Mashed Potatoes two and one half stars out of five stars. They should be a lot better, potato taste wise, in my opinion. This was the first Larry's brand food product that I have tried, that I can remember. The frozen mashed potato line has quite a variety of flavors like sour cream and chives, sweet potatoes, broccoli and cheddar cheese and I think I will give the sour cream and chives a try. Still, this dish is filling and very creative. It is also affordable and so easy to prepare. I like that about it. One bacon and cheddar cheese mashed potato has 200 calories in it. 80 of those calories come from fat. It has 9 grams of total fat, 2.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 5 mg's of cholesterol, 350 mg's of sodium, 570 mg's of potassium, 25 grams of total carbs, 1 gram of dietary fiber, 8 grams of sugars and 4 grams of protein. This dish does contain milk ingredients.

I enjoyed trying Larry's Bacon & Cheddar Cheese Mashed Potatoes and writing this product review about them. This is an interesting product and it could be made a lot better, I think. The low price made it worth trying, for sure!
